YOUR CHANCE
W ill C ome
A most remarkable dry spell for
this season of the year is being cy
perienccd in this county. The last
rain fall was on the 26th of Septem
ber, making 30 days without rain.
Congressman W. C. Hawley will
meet with the Port of Tillamook on
Tuesday morning at 8;30, for the
purpose of seeing what government
appropriations can be obtained for
the improvement of the channel from
the bay to this city.
1 his certain man, whose name is Legion, had very little
chance, you would say, to acquire a competence. But he was de
termined to save and succeed. “Some day” he said, "My chance
will come.” So he saved and got ready. And his chance did come
\ our chance will come. Some day you’ll be considering an
investment. If you’re ready you can take it up. And you can get
ready no matter if your salary is small. It’s what you save that
counts, not what you make.
William Maxwell, accoinpaniSl by
his wife and son Joseph, with C. L.
Kinnaman and wife and little daugh
ter Pauline, met with a serious acci
dent in Portland. Mr. Maxwell and
party left Tillamook Saturday morn
ing to loop the loop, going out by
way of Seaside. While in Portland
their car turned over at Twenty-
third and Washington streets, and it
is a wonder that they did not meet
with a more serious accident. As it
was Mrs. Maxwell sustained a fracture
of the left leg and was taken to the
Good Samaritan hospital. The others
were also taken to the hospital as
they were all more or less shaken up.
The car was descending the hill, ac
cording to Mr. Maxwell's statement,
when the brakes refused to work. Tn
an endeavor to check the speed and
avoid accident he attempted to turn
into the side street. Instantly a front
wheel of the car collapsed under the
strain and the machine upset, throw
ing the occupants to the pavement,
none of them was pinned br*sc|th the
wreck.
With the exception of Mrs. Max-
well all were able within a few hours
to leave the hospital, where their
wounds were dressed.
Ira J. Wolfe met with an accident
on Monday. His horse became scar
