THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH AND
CONVERSION.
I. --Present Confusion on the Subject.
1. —Cause of confusion. The old man-made theory of Total
Depravity of all, even infants, hence infant baptism. But see II.
Tim. 3:13. If men are totally depraved, they can't “wax worse
and worse.” Some good in all men. Rom. 7:21-23.
2. —What conversion is not.
1. —Not miraculous. They cite Saul and Lydia. But Saul was
made an Apostle, hence he saw Christ. Acts 9:3-6 ; 26:15, 16.
Lydia's heart was closed by Jewish prejudice against Jesus and
opened by the gospel. Acts 1(1:14.
2. —Not feeling. Feeling is effect, not cause.
II. --Meaning of Conversion.
1. —Change of mind and reformation of life.
2. —The steps.
1. —A change of mind—by faith, John 20:30, 31.
2. —A change of will—by repentance, Lk. 15:17, 18.
3. —A change of state—by baptism, Col. 1:13,
Gal. 3:27.
3. —The result—a change of life. If. Cor. 5:17; Gal. 5:22, 23.
III. --Scriptural Cases of Conversion.
