What Great Men have Said about
the Bible
BENJAMIN FRANKI IN—“Young man, my advice to you is that
yon cultivate an acquaintance with and a firm belief in the Holy Scrip
t ires, for this is your certain interest. I think Christ's system of morals
and religion, as he left them tons, the best the world ever saw or is likely
to see.”
DANIEL WEBSTER “If we abide by the principles taught in the
Bible, our country will go on prospering anti to prosper ; but if we and
our posterity neglect its instructions and authority, no one knows how
sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury all our glory in ob
scurity. The Bible is the book of all books for lawyers as well as divines,
and I pity the man who cannot find in it a rich Hnpply of thought and
rule of conduct.”
PROFESSOR HUXLEY "I cannot see how moral condm t is going
to be kept up without the Bible.”
JOHN t.H'INCY ADAMS—“So great is my veneration for the Bjble

my hopes that they will prove useful citizens to their country and respect-
ble members in society.”

I . S. GRANT—“Hold fast to the Bible ns the sheet anchor of our
liberty; write its precepts on your hearts, and practice them in your
lives. To the influence of the Hook we are indebted to the progress
made in true civilization, and to this we must look as our guide in the
future.

The Evangelist.
New Testament CHURC
Established A.D. 33
FOUNDER—Jesus Christ, Matt 16:18.
A big Swede came to our town one day
— His name was Olson, so they say,
His hair was red, liis eyes were blue,
He had a big smile when he looked at you.
He preached in the church just o'er the way
Many times on Sunday and at the close of each day.
He had charts try the dozen hung up on the wall
And a question box stuck up ih the hall.
His words flew fast and furious, too;
He preached to us Christ and what we should do
To be saved from sin in the world today.
And nothing would do but confess and obey.
Some people got mad and said funny things
Some don’t like truth for it surely stings;
Some stayed away, for they knew they’d hear
Truth that would make them tremble with fear,
Some wrapped themselves in creediam cloaks,
And said what he preached was only a hoax.
But he threw out the nets and guthered them in
Until scores of people confessed their sin.
He thundered and stormed at the walla of vice
And told how for sin Christ paid tile price.
He took sinners up in his arms so strong,
And showed them their lives were wrong.
He took them close to the foot of the cross
And proved that all creediam was dross.
He put them on the gospel train
And fold of the time when Christ should reign.
Some people may laugh and some may jeer
But we thank God the Sweed came here,
I'or he set a pace for Christiana to go
And the truth of his words we surely know.
God grant more men like him were here,
There’d be leas gambling and selling beer,
Thia earth would be free from sin and care—
Heaven itself could’ent be more fair.
For Christ’s spirit shines out all over his face,
And he always keeps sweet by God's given grace.
He's a Sweed to lie sure and his hair is red,
But when he speaks sin ducks his head.
So Christian people will Jove hijn still,
For we know he is doing his Master's will.
And we know great his reward "will be
For what he has done for you and me.
The people of Silverton sometime will say.
"What fools we were not to confess and obey.”
For his message was surely from Christ above
Ami he ment naught but rest, and peace and love.
But some must go with lamps unfilled.
For they’re sinful and stubborn and so self-willed.
But Olson has sown seeds which surely will bring
Rich fruit to the feet of Christ, our King.
