NEW DAIRY LAW.
Specifying what the Dairy­
men Must Comply with.
the dairy department of an Agricultural
College. Said deputies shall take and
filo with the Secretary of Slate an oath
that they have the qualifications apeci.
fied in thia Act, and to faithfully per
form tbe duties assigned them, and

pleasure of the Dairy and Food Coni
miasioner. In addition to the general
duties hereinbefore provided, these
deputies shall organize and conduct
cow testing Associations and shall c >1-
lect and distribute valuable dairy in­
formation in all ways within their
power. They shall inspect the sanitary
condition of dairies, creameries and
examine into the quality of the milk
and cream used ill these plants a id the
sanitary condition thereof. Any or all
of them at the direction of the Dairy and
Food Commissioner,
visit different
creameries and take two samples of
cream from each patron received at
that creamery for testing. One sample
shall be sealed and stamped with
the label of the I> ury and Food Co i.»J
miasioner. and left for the owner or
manager of the Cieamery. and the other
shall I* tested by a d*-putv of the Dairy

These deputies shall receive an annual
salary of not to exceed Twelve Hundred
Dollais ($1200.00) which shall be paid
in he same manner as ia provided by­
law for the payment of other officers of
tlie Dairy and Food D -p.irl ment. There
shall also be paid to these deputies their
necessary and actual expenses incurred
in the discharge of their official duties,
on the approval of the Dairy and Food
Commissioner, provided such expenses
do not exceed eight hundred dollars
($800 Oti) per year.
Sec. 7.—Any person, firm or corpora
tion convicted of violating any of the
provisions of thia Act, or failing to com.
ply with same, shall upon the first con.
viction be fined twenty-five dollars
($25.00); upon the second conviction
they shall fie fined fifty dollars ($50 00);
upon the third and all subsequent coil-
viclion», they shall be fined one huudred
dollars ($100.00).
See. 8.— The term person or persons

Sec. 9.—That there tie and hereby ia
appropriated annually out of any money

Sec. 10.—All fines collected under this
Act shall lie transmitted by the person
collecting the same to the Slate Trea­
surer and by him deposited in the fund
known as '•The Pure Food Fund.”
Sec 11—That it shall tie the duty of
the Dairy and Food Como- ssioner to
force the provisions of this Act.

which is of considerable interest to the
dairymen of this county. Representative
Beals was instrumental in getting the
bill passed.
AN ACT
To provide measures for improving the
quality of nulk. cream, butter and cheese
and for all dairy products of Oregon,
and to provide for the employment ol
deputies qualified to inspect dailies,
creameries and cheese factories, and to
collect and desseminate valuable dairy
information, nnd to form cow testing
associations and to provide ,a penalty
for its violation ;
Be it enacted by the Legislative as­
sembly ol the state of Oregon :
Be it enacted by the people of the
Si ute of Oregon ;
Sec. 1. Relut nglothecnre of cream
s< paraiora and thy sale of milk and
cream ;
It »hull be unlawful for any dairymen
who skim» bin milk by cream separator
process co offer or expose for sale, or
sell any milk or cream coining from a
separator that is not thoroughly w ashed
and cleansed within three (3) hours after
each use thereof, or to offer or expose
for sale, or sell any milk or cream com­
ing from a separator that is kept in any
stable or other building where any ani
mal is housed or in any other place that
is unsanitary or where bad air exists,
provided that this does not prohibit
keeping such separators in a room that
is wholly separated by sealed and pa­
pered partitions from that part of the
stable ill which animals are housed. All
tin and wooden ware and other utensils
used about any dairy shall be kept in a
clean and sanitary condition.
Sec. 2. Cows and bams for dairy
purposes—Manner of keeping; When
cows are kept by anv person or persons,

cheese, or for the production of milk or
cream for sale in addition to provisions
already mnde by law and now enforced,

ises where cows are kept, or by the un­
