to defeat justice and to defeat the Dis-
trict Attorney’s office in the prosecution
of the case, allowing Wolfe,charged with
rape upon his own daughter, to go fret.
It is the duty of the officials to unearth
this conspiracy and bring the perpetra
tors of this conspiracy before the bar ot l
justice. The seriousness of the case de
mands it and the people of this county
also have a right to demand it. The
system of tampering with witnesses in
Tillamook county is no new thing, tor
it is a well known fact that numbers of
witnesses havegone on the witness stand
and testified falsely to defeat justice. This
is a condition of affairs which should not
be allowed to exist, and, probably, this
si stem has been brought about by the
trickery of attorneys, who resort to such
methods, when they find that the pre
ponderance of evidence is against them.
Now that there appears to be a clear case
of tampering with the State’s witness
and spiriting her away, the Press and
the people await the action of District
Attorney J. H. McNary and the grand
jury next week. This is the second time
this year that the State's witnesses have
been Tampered with in Tillamook City,
and il this is allowed to continue there is 1
