The show people from the State fair,
who were billed to play here tor four days,
being detained at Astoria on account of
bad weather, did not succeeded in get
ting here until Thuisdav afternoon, and
it was Friday morning before their
tents reached the citv as the Evie ran
aground in the bav. The shows were of
the dime order in other towns, but they
tapped the Tillamook people for twenty
five cent, but the most peculiar feature
of the show was that $400 subsidy had
been subscribed by the business men to
bring the dime shows to this city. The
show people announced on Saturday
that they would show on Sunday, and
as they were occupying the main streets
his caused some indignation, several of
the ciitsens went to Deputy District At
torney Cooper and told him that it
would be a disgrace to the city to allow
them to show on that day. Sumlav the
deputy district attorney .after consulting
with District Attorney McNary, sent
word to the show people and the candy
and cigar store to close up, which they
immediately did, and for the first time
in the history of Tillamook City the
"lid'' was put on Suna.:y trading. As

Tillamook County is doing her share
toward* providing an auto road that
will skirt tbe sea. By next season autos
can go through that county| and into
Clatsop over n splendid road that w II

way. Tillamook county ha* $60,000 to
spend on road* this year. There will be
$100,000next year, and more thereafter.
If Polk and Yamhill and Clatsop and
Columbia and Washington counties will
wake up in road matters that region
will soon be the talk of the whole coun
try. Those counties «ill have an asset
in good roads that will help their devel
opment and add to their wealth in many
ways.—Statesman.
Another Railroad Proposition.
Manager Buffum, ot the Bankers,
Savings & Loan Society, of Astoria, was
in the city last week in the interest ol
the Oregon Coast Railway Company,
and a number of business men met Fri
day evening in H. T. Botts' office to hear
Mr. Buffum’s plans, which amounted to
this : A company had been formed at
Astoria to run a survey and procure
rights of way for an electric line in Cla •
sop county, the expenses of this work
being paid hy tboee who subscribed for
stock, and as soon as the road was taken
over or financed this money would lie
returned with interest. And so as to
continue the survey to Tillamook CiK
and to procure rights of wav Mr. Buffum
was wanting the people of this count)
to raise $10,000. Most of the business
men present expressed themselves by say
ing that they would like to see an electric
line between this city and Astoria, but
were somewhat positive in their remarks
that that amount of money could not be
raised, and as to securing options fot
rights of way for two years that wm
considered impossible.
Mr. Buffum met
with little or no encou-agement ; in fact,
the meeting plainly proved that the peo
ple of this county are not in the mood io
take hold of any new railroad proposi
tion of a vibionarv character, and .Mr.
Buffum found himself in a little hornet's
nest when he undertook to carry it into
effect. After talking over the matter the
next day and Sunday with others, Mr.
Buffum found that he could accomplish
nothing so gave the matter up.
Death ot E A Fitzpatrick
It was with much regret that the peo
ple heard the sad news of the sudden
death of Mr. E. A. Fitzpatrick on Friday
afternoon. He was apparently in good
health, but was somewhat troubled on
account of his son.in law's recent failure
in business. He was in the city Friday
morning, and at noon went to the home
of Mrs. Walker fot dinner, and while al
the table he suddenly expired Dr. Boult
was immediately called, but could do
nothing for the unfortunate man. as lift
was extinct, the cause of death being at.
tributed to heart failure. Deceased was
a son of Mr. and Mrs. Wn-. Fitzpatrick,
and a brother of Messrs.Dave and Frank
Fitzpatrick, lie was born in Ontario,
Canada, on January 1st, 1868. where be
resided 34 years. He came from Canada
to Tillamook in 1892, where he has since
resided. He was married on April 27th,
1885.10 Miss Mellie Souvie, of Michigan,
and ten children were born, seven of
whom are living. Deceased was a man
who was greatly respected by all who
kne-r; him and the people deplore his sud
den death, and at the same time extend
their sympathy to the bereaved wife and
family Tlie funeral service was held at the
Catholic church on Sunday, conducted
by Psther* Chappi and Miller, and the
interment was in the Catholic cemetery.
A large numbers of frieods of the bereav
ed family atteoded the funeral.
