The democrats are endeavoring to
raise a rumpus over Statement No. 1, for
the avowed purpose of causing factional
strife in the republican party. That is
their object, for they do not want to
discuss the principles of their own psrty
or that of the republican party. But
they keep on harping, harping, harping,
about the people's choice for U.S. sena
tor. If they will go back a few years, to
the election of 1902, they will find that
T. T. Geer was a candidate on tbe repub.
lican ticket for U.S. senator, and C. E.
S. Wood on the democratic ticket. Geer
received 656 votes and Wood 325 votes
in Tillamook, and in the State Geer was
the people’s choice for U.S. senator, but
the state Irgislature did not elect him.
