The annual Teachers institute for Till
amook Countx began a three day svf -
sion at the High School yesterday with
about sixty teachers and prospective
teachers present. ¡Yesterdays program
was an exceptionally strong and prac
tical one; State Supt. Ackerman, Secre
tarv Marvin of the State Library Com
mission, and Supt. Belt of Yamhill Coun
ty being the instructors.

'1 he two-masted schooner Antelope
went ashoreat the mouth ol the Nehalem
Friday. Oct. 4th, and will probably be a
total loss, although her lumber cargo
•nay be saved in part. The craft was
outward bound in tow of the tug Geo.
R. Vosburg, when she was caught in
some tremendous breakers and tossed
upon the beach. All hands were saved.
The Antelope returned from Portland
a few days ago alter having discharged
a cargo oi lumber there and w as going
north again with a second cargo when
disaster overtook her. It was storm)
when the tow started for the sea and
upon reaching the bar it was discovered
too riskv to try to stai d out for open
water. In turning about to run for
shelter the schooner got beyond control
of the tug and piled upon the beach, At
first it was believed that she could be
pulled off but all efforts have proved
unavailing so far and it is feared that
she will remain a wreck for good this
time.
The Antelope was built in Benicia,
Cal., in 1887 but l>elongu to Astoria,
Ore. She registered 117 tons net and
was capable of carrying 300.000 levt ol
lumber in which trade she has been en
gaged almost constantly. She has been
aground and ashore several times before
but not m as dangerous position as this
before. Exposed to the sea the waves
will likely pound her to pieces soon.
The tug Vosburg is owned by the
Wheeler Lumber Company at whose mill
the Antelope had secured her cargo.
On Thursday evening Oct. 17, Rev.
David H. Hare will be regularly install
ed as paster of the Piesbyterian Church
at Tillamook. Rev. W. S. Holt, D. D.
will preside, Dr. Folks of the First Pres
byterian church of Portland will deliver
the sermon. Rev. H H. Pratt to give
charge to pastor Rev. Henry Mascotte
to give charge to the people. Services
to commence at 7:30 at the Presbyterian
church. All are invited to attend.
A special meeting of the Tillamook
Development League was held T jesday
evening for the purpose of discussing
plana foi the establishment of a free
Public Library in this city. Miss Corn
els Marvin, Secretary of the Oregon
Library Commission was present by
invitation and explained to the League
the plan pursued elsewhere in the estab
lishment of public libraries. The sul>-
ject was very generally discussed by
those present, and.it was decided to call
a meeting of the league to meet at thr
opera house next Saturday evening at
7;30 for the purpose of organizing a
library commission. All members of the
league aud all citizens interested in this
movement are invited to be present.
