What might have been a fatal burn
ing accident was prevented on Wed
nesday by the timely arrival of F. W.
Christensen. Agness Coates, the young
est daughter of Thos. Contes, with
several other children, made a bonfire in
the yard at the back ol the house where
they have n play house. Her clothes
caught fire and began to burn fiercely.
The children screamed, which attracted
the attention of Mr. Christensen, who
was working on his bouse about a block
nwav. The cliihl ran to the house, and
just as she was about to enter Christen
sen caught her, and as the flames were
going up all round her head, lie turned
her over and smothered the flames with
liis hands, which prevented the child
from being burned to death and which
probably also saved the house from
