VVr- give below this week two annual
reports, that of the Maple L**af Creamery
Association and the Clover Leaf Cream
ery Company, which are but a sample of
what the other cooperative companies
did last year.
Take the report of the
secretary (Carl ¡labelinch) of the Maple
Leaf Creamery Association and it shows
flattering results for a new corporation
with nearly four million pounds of milk
and 681 cows averaging $66.78 per cow
for 19()6. And when taken into consid
eration that the dairymen raise their own
feed and do most of their own work, it
is easy to calculait the profits in dairy
ing in Tillamook, and iu comparison to
wheat raising the farmer gets a pay day
hut once a year, while the dairymen in
this county have a pay day once or twice
a month.

tive insurers. The Modern National
Reserve is conducted on a plan absolute
ly safe, and one that is certain under its
careful management to realize and pay
to its members the benefits that its cer
tificates provide. Every |>erson rectiv«
ing a salary or engaged in any small
business will find it no hardship to in
vest in one of the contracts issued by
the society, and secure returns better
than any stock or endowment insurance
affords.
Careful and consistent salaried and
business people are becoming interested
in the plan, owing to the fact that the
order presents a proposition which must
appeal to all who are looking for a rale
investment as well as insurance protec
tion. The plan of the order is an infall
ible one. But one lias not to «lie to get
his return on his investment ; he can live
and enjoy the lienefits of his savings,
alone with himself or his family. In con
clusion we will say that we have
thoroughly examined and investigated
the Modern National Reserve, and find
it deserving of the fullest confidence of
all, and the Western Trade Journal re
commends the order and its benefits to
the public and all those that desire sound
protection. For particulars sec Geo. F

Neglected Colds Threaten Life
(From the Chicago Tribune.)
" ■ Don’t trifle with a cold,* is good

warm clothing ure the proper safeguards
against colds. If they are maintained
through the changeable weather of
autumn, winter and spring, the chances
of a surprise from ordinary colds will be
slight. But the ordinary light cold will
become severe if neglected, and a well
established ripe cold is to the germs of
diphtheria what honey is to the bee. The
greate»t menace to child life Ht this sea
son of the year is the neglected cold.”
Whether it is a child or adult, the cold
alight or severe, the very beet treatment
that can be adopted is to give Chamber

sale of this preparation has >>een attained
by its remarkable cures of this ailment.
