The
policy of the Headlight on all matters of
interest to the people of Tillamook have
been outspoken and no one can accuse us
being a “policy man,’" afraid to express
our opin'on because it was against the
interests or would offend some of our
advertisers. When I the Headlight took
up the fight against gambling, it did so
alone, but we don't remember any of our
good friends coming round and helping
us out when the gamblers and their
“stool pigeons” on several occasions
tried to start a “boycott” on the Head
light. Oh, no ; the Headlight went it
alone, did not ask for any favor nor care
for the disfavor of anyone, in molding
public sentiment against gambling, and
when the time came for the people to
talk, they cleared out the whole shooting
match and the saloons as well. We have
mentioned this little fact to show <vur
good friends that the policy of a news
paper is one thing and that of legitimate
advertising is another. In politics let us
also say that the Headlight is republican
and not prohibition, and whatever side
it has taken on any local issues it has
done so siucerely and fearlessly, and it
is upon that that the editor places his
reputation as a newspaper men and is
subject to public criticism.
