The town of Chinook, on the north
side of the Colombia, wa* visited about
3 o'clock Monday afternoon by a sev» re
bail storm that did several hundred
dollars damage to property. The storm
continued only a few minutes and its
truck was not over 2000 feet wide, but
in that district not a pane of glass was
left unbroken. The hailstone were un
usually large, some ot them measuring
two inches in circumference.

had gone to tome neighbor who grew
good alfalfa, and procured a cartload
of soil from this neighbor's alfalfa field
and sowed it broadcast on his alfalfa
ground the alleged alkali would have
assumed a thrifty green color. This pro
cess is called soil inoculation, and ought
to lie understood by every farmer. The
bacteria can lie cultivated and grown in
immense numbers, and put up in biscuits
und sold or given away. ’Hie Agricul
tural department is now doing this.
