Death of J. S. Elliott.
At his home at Riverdale, Tillamook
County, Oregon, January 18, 1903, Jacob
Schuyler Elliott, aged 73 years, 6 days.
Jacob Schuyler Elliott was born in
New York, January 12, 1830.
He was
married to Miss Jennie Cotton in 1852,
and with her removed to Oregon in i860.
He resided in Multnomah County until
1871, when he came to Tillamook and
purchased a piece of land on the Kilchis,
which by persistant energy he converted
into a comfortable home and a profitable
farm, and where he spent the better
half of his life, surrounded by children
and grandchildren and neighbors whose
esteem and affection he held by a
uniform course of integrity, earnestness
and neighborly kindness.
He is survived by a widow and five
children : Margaret Jennings, of Kilchi,
Tillamook county ; Co-a Erving, of Port
land, Oregon ; Anna Babbadge, of Port
land ; William B., Tracy R.. and Charles
A. Elliott, all residing at Kilchis.
He had been a consistent member of
the Presbyterian Church for the past 12
years and his funeral, which took place
Friday, was conducted by Rev. S. 8.
White, Minister of that denomination.
It was attended bv the largest cortege
of carriages ever seen in the county, made
up of neighbors and friends who thus
testified to their appreciation of his manly
life and virtue.
The deceased was a most devoted hus
band, as well as a kind and affectionate
father, and on this account his death is
more keenly felt by his widow and family,
who bore their loss with Christian forti
I tude and hope of meeting again where
there is no more parting or sorrow.
