Tillamook City’s Filipino Junta.
We hope every democrat in Tillamook
County will read the gush which is ap
pearing in the Ocean Wave, compiled by
a Filipino Junta in Tillamook City, which
is composed of a few well-known demo,
crats trying to pose as disgruntled re
publicans and a few disappointed repub
lican office seekers, who, having failed to
get what they wanted, have turned trai
tors and are now prostituting themselves
with democrats and want to run that
party. Such is Tillamook City’s Filipino
Junta, and if the Headlight does not
miss its guess, it is the right kind of cam
paign stuff to make every respectable
democrat blush with shame, feel disgust
ed and humiliated to think that these
parties are using the democratic* party
of this county through which they can
vent their personal spleen.
That is all
it amounts to, and that is the essence of
the articles from beginning to end, as
every democrat can see for himself if he
will take the trouble to read between
the lines. We feel sorrv to see the demo
cratic party in t his county dragged down
to the level of those who form the Fili
pino Junta, who write such silly, absurd,
ridiculous, idiotic gusli to vent their spite,
for it belittles the democratic party to
such an extent that no one can have the
least confidence in it. especially as it is
being swayed ny a little small, small lit
tleclick of star chamber, ring rulers, who
have put their heads together in this city
to concoct a lot of personal abuse and
throw it at a few of the nominees on the
republican ticket. Personally the editor
of the Headlight has no objection to tilt*
Filipino Junta's criticism, for we leel
flattered at having so many bouquets
thrown at us, even if it does eniiuate
from the little scoffers, but when it conies
to assailing individual members on the
republican ticket that is a different mat
ter, and it is time that republicans re
sented such low down politics.
The
Headlight has not printed a word of dis
respect about any of the candidates on
the democratic ticket, nor do we intend
to unjustly linrl personal abuse at them
with the a vowed object of lowering them
in the public estimation or to attempt
to belittle them in their profession or
business. We believe every fair -minded
democrat will coincide with the Head
light when we say that the candidates
on the republican ticket are deserving of
the same lair treatment. But the Fili
pino Junta has resorted to personalities
and political lies. When the Headlight
called upon republicans to attend the
primaries the response was spontaneous,
with the result that a representative re
publican coilvention nominated a clean
ticket, and because it is a clean ticket,
with candidates with clean records, the
Filipino J unta isendea voring to besmirch
the characters ol individual members of
the republican ticket.
Let the response
be just as spontaneous when we call up
on republicans to resent these personal
attacks as it was when the Headlight
called upon them to stamp out the Sap
pington graft. With an enthusiasm and
determination they made a clean sweep,
and we ask republicans again to rise in
righteous indignation ami for the second
time wipe out the political grafters and
tax eaters, as well as the Filipino Junta
in Tillamook City. The first Monday in
June, so as to demonstrate more fully
that the political gralters and tax eaters
and 1 tile or ruin factions cannot domi-
nate Tilllamook polities any longer.
They have had their day and the tax
payers do not proposed to be fleeced any
longer with high taxation on account
of them.

Sir Michael Ilicks-Beach, chancellor
of the British exchequer, evidently had
n<»t conferred with the ineiohants of the
United Kingdom when he asserted that
the imposition of duties on flour and
grain won hl not increase the price of
food. Wheat and flour have advanced
materially since the announcement of
the government's new policy for raising
revenue and a further increase in the
price of breadatuttM would not lie surpris
ing. It is rather remarkable that so
capable and experienced a finance min
inter as Hicks Beach should havecerious-
ly thought a tax on food would not in
crease the price, for he certainly ought
to have undeist Mai that British merch
ants would protect themselves by mak
ing the co maimer pay the tax. Their
course is perfectly natural and as the
United Kingdom imports the greater
part of its breadstuff* they may lie able
to maintain the advanced price.
What effect the increased cost of food
will have upon the mass of British con-
s inner* remains to be seen, but it is
hardly to be suplMieed that there will be
