A r we arrived here all right, I will
write to you. Ou the way down we had
good bunka and plenty to eat, for the
people in Woodburn and Salem gave uh
all we wanted to eat and more to«>, also
the State gave uh $1.50 to buy with on
the I rip down, which we had clear. The
Red CrosH gave uh a meal when we left

mento, from there we ran two full trains
on the ferry, crossed the bay.
We are clear out of town. We got
here the forenoon of the 4th, and didn’t

plank bulkhead at each end, held in place

eter. It is towed by a hawser 16 inches
in circumference and 150 fathoms long,
connecting with a chain 75 fathoms long

iiected with another chain which rn: s
Ihiough the whole length of the raft,
and wherever the strain comes on the
hawser it pulls ths raft together. On the
ocean by this means the raft is tight­
ened more securely

on the same plans by Mr. Roliertaon, at
Stella, and will be ready ii> about two
