The Commencement Exercises at the
St. Alphonsus’ Academy took place last
night, as heretofore advertised. A large
number of invitations had been cent out,
and, that they had been generally ac
cepted was evinced by the fact that the
large audience room of the Academy
was crowded to its utmost capacity by
the pations and friends of the school.
The programme was carried out in full
as published in our last issue and to say
that it whs excellent throughout ia the
least that can lie said; The entire pro
gramme was of such a uniform degree of
excellence that to give special mention
to any particular individual would be
unfair. We would be glad to publish an
extended write-up of the exercises but
as they oveured last night and we go to
press this morning it is impossible to do
so.
The enlertaiument was of an un usually
high order. The musical part of the
programme was the best we have ever
listened to in a school entertainment.
The singing by the children was espec
ially fine. Everyone who has had any
thing to do with the musical training of
children knows how difficult it is to
leach them to sing in time and in tune,
and the vocal training of the children of
St. Alphonses’ Academy evinces a mas
ter hand. Equally good was the in-
striimviilal music and the elocutionary
work. The two short dramas were ren
dered in a veiy pleasing manner. The

waa apt and timely and well receiv-
ed.
Father Schell and the sisters of the
Academy have every reason to feel a
laudable pride in their work and t he
people of Tillamook may congratulate
themselves on the excellent work done.
The Fourth of July exercises in Tilla
mook passed off very pleasantly. The

and the altemlance upon the exercises
from the surrounding country was un
