Editor H eadi . ioht :—
It is said that otir present City Marika
ia a candidate for re-election. Iiso.it
would lie gratifying to hia friends if he
would, at an early date, discard some of
his daintiness and gather in a few of the
hoodlums who are doing their best to
terrorize the community, Few of our
citizens object to the boys engaging in
youthful sports and enjoying themselves
in a legitimate manner, but when peace
ful, law-abiding citizens are disturbed
night after nigl.l by having their bouses
“rocked” or tick-taked, when fences are
torn down and property damaged, night
ly raids made on chicken coops, persons
who are dangerously ill wantonly dis
turbed, strangers trip|>ed tip on the main
streets, and so on, it ia lime an effort was
made to put a atop to these outrages,
and if it is not expecting too much,
citizens look to the marshal for relief.
It is no use to recite instances of the
outrages (for they have become too
numerous to be called anything else)
committed by the gang if hoodlum* now
infesting the town, for they are matters
of common knowledge and in many cases
have been directly reported to the
marshal. Neither are those who commit
the outrages unknown. They are sons
of reputable citizens, and well known to
the marshal, and even if they are not it
is hie business to find out. There are
taxpayers who are getting tired of pay-
iug a salary to a marshal who give« them
no protection, and it will materially help
his chances of re-election if he will, >11
the near future, do a little rustling and
allow the people that lie is City Marshal
for the purpose of doing liis duty ns pre-
acrilierl in Section 1, of Chapter 3, of the
City Charter amt not for the sole purpose
of drawing his salary and walking around
behind a big star.
