per Island. After changing her name to
the prize, the Russian authorities gave
her to Captain Copp on condition that
he would carry 17 of the sailing crew
taken prisoners back to British Colum
bia. On her return to Victoria, her
original owners claimed her. Captain
Copp refused to give her up. The min
ister of marine, in effect denies the right
of Russia to confiscate the sealer or «lis
iarse of her. His action is expected to ;
hasten a settlement of accounts between
Russia and <ire.it Britain.
Captain O’Brien and his watchman,
Win. Holmes, were rescued from the
wrecke I whalebark Wetmore after being
