BABY’S

He Swallow««! the Entire Content« of a
Work Basket, and Still Uve».
Leo, the 11-months old baby of Os
car M. Spurrier, registrar of Mount
Airy (Md.) district, swallowed a number
of needles, pins, buttons, etc., Saturday
morning, while Mrs. Spurrier was doing
her usual cleaning up for Sunday. About
10 o’clock she placed the little fellow in
an adjoining room on the fluor to play
while she did her work. She gave him
a glance quito often to sec that he did
not get near the stove. She saw that he
was quiet and contented beyond the
table, and consi« 1 er *d him quite safe
from harm. She did not notice that he
bad polled off the table spread, with the
sewing basket on it.
The little fellow swallowed paper, but
tons, tacks, and even took pins from a
paper and swallowed them without com
plaining. The mother later on discov
ered what had been done. She examined
his mouth and found nothing in it, and
felt sure that he had not swallowed any
thing until about 0 o’clock iu the after
noon, when the child cried with pain
and emitted from its mouth a iiuui I mt of I
buttons and pins. Dr. Ben Todd was
immediately sent for, but could not do
anything much beyond giving an emetic
and letting nature takeiucourse. With
iu thirty-six hours afterward the little
fellow emitted sixty six various articles.
They had to keep moving the little fel
low constantly, and ho bore tin? pain
heroically, «carrel y crying. At 8 o’clock
next morning he was quietly shaping.
livre is a list of tho things he swal
