THE DEVIL’S OUTFIT.
The throne of the Devil is a three-legged stool;
His fork is a sharp, trident sticker;
His imps are all taught in a three sided school,
And his dope is a three colored liquor.
When Saten takes stock of his outfit of Hell,
You’ll find there three marks on each item;
He’s used them since first from high heaven he fell,
And you’re gone if you don’t help us fight ’em.
Let us look for ’be marks on the legs of the stool—
There is “ruia • e ’ ju- as true’s I’m a sinner;
And look! There is “priest”, or by Jove I’m a fool—
And the other?—"A Capitalist Skinner”.
STRIKE FOR LIBERTY!
REAL THINKING.
E, THE PEOPLE, know more than we used to, thank the
Lord, and we are beginning to think. This thinking will
certainly lead to something good and the good thing
that it will certainly lead to, ’s the final enjoyment of the
blessings of lilierty for ourselves and our posterity. But
there are still many things that keep people from really thinking
and therefore many people have just a sort of brain action that
doesn’t do much good, neither for themselves nor for their fellow
men.
There are natural born fools, and the reader Is certainly one
if he thinks without a purpose. One who has no aim in life is to
lie pitied and is to lie taken care of as any other non compos mentis.
But such a one may do less harm than the idi< t who thinks of
nothing but himself. Such a one may not wish to harm anyone
else but he is like a monkey, who, having learned how to start a
blaze, sets the ship on fire to warm his hands.
But perhaps the most thoughtless human after all is the one
who believes that the proper thing to do is to build up himself at
the expense of others. He is a vicious, animal fool who harks back
beyond the animal man, back, farther back than the wild wolfish
hyenas of the most ferocious poc, back to the devouring, crawling
snake creatures of the reptilian age, back, back to the Devil him
self. O, you monstrocity, you viper! Two thousand years have
passed since Jesus used that word viper in speaking of these
thoughtless, human exploiters, and yet to day Scribes and Phar-
asees are doing the very things he condemned. Thinkers, real
thinkers, you understand the causes of things and will unselfishly
work for the salvation of all. Ye are the salt of the earth indeed
—a city that is set on a hill. You have written books; you have
preached the real unselfish gospel of humanity; you have studied
the great book of nature; you have labored to get a true concep
tion of human history; you love your fellow men; you are for
getful of self—you really think—you need no priest and no mat
ter what the non thinking world may say of you, your name will
be written in the real “Lamb’s Book of Life.”
