Mr. B. R. Bentson a prominent
merchant of Silverton, Oregon, died

day afternoon at 5:15, after a linger­
ing illness of eight years duration.
He had always been about his place
of business until a heart attack about
three weeks ago which had confined
him to his home.
Ben R. Bentson was born near
Bergen Norway, October 27th, I s is
In 1S66 he emigrated to the United
States and settled at Decorah, lowu,
where in 1875 he was united in
marriage to Olivia Erickson and they
came to South Dakota and took up u
homestead near Garretson. To this
union were born ten children,
whom are living.
He followed his trade of brick
mason and contractor for many j ears.
111 1S94 he started in the mercantile
business in Garretson, S. D. and in
1901 he came to Si'verton, Oregon
and continued in the business until
the time of his death.
He leaves to mourn his loss besides
a devoted wife, nine sons and one
daughter. Roderick, Gilbert. Samuel,
Oscar, Charles and Harry and Mrs.
N. L. Laugsev of this place, John of
Cresband. S. D„ Albert of Redwood
Falls Minnesota and Otto of Badger,
S. 1)., eleven grandchildren, five sisters
and four brothers, Mrs. Jennie Sund-
beck of Nome. Alaska, Sivor Bentson
of Trent, S. I)., Mrs. Susan Grinde of
this place, Mrs. Tina Royce of Port-
land. Ore. Martin Bentson of Sioux
Falls, S. D. Mrs. Mary Simonson and
Mrs. Belle Simonson of Coleman.
S. 1). and Andrew and Lewis Bentson
of Vancouver, B. C.
Mr. Bentson was the oldest of his
parent’s ten children and is the first
to pass away, leaving many relatives
and a host of friends to mourn his de­
parture.
