an even match for a large
cougar, and that the wolves
that were killed may have been
alone. Research does show
that, once a pack establishes in
a cougar’s territory, that the
cougars tend to move to differ-
ent terrain to avoid the wolves.
A single cougar is no match for
a pack of wolves. The odd part
is that this wolf mortality has
been documented only in Mon-
tana and only in the Bitterroot
Range.

workers expect higher wages
or won’t stay long if they’re
overqualified. In response, Ja-
cobsen tells companies that
older workers have different
goals on the job than younger
people – and that there’s a pay-
off for giving them a chance,
“Older workers are more de-
pendable; they have a strong
work ethic. The generation that
is retiring, the baby boomers,
they come from hardy stock,
and their whole thought
process is different.”
Jacobsen adds that finding a
job is tough at any age, and ad-
vises those in their 50s and be-
yond to network and brush up
on their skills just as much as
anyone else, “A lot of times,
people retire and think, ‘Oh, I
can just get a job’ – just go out
and work at a retail store or
maybe drive a school bus or
something like that.’ They’re
kind of shocked when they get
out there in the job market and
see there are 30 people for
every job that’s available.”
According to the GAO re-
port, 70 percent of older work-
ers who find new jobs end up
earning less than at their previ-
ous jobs. It says this trend
means more people file earlier
for Social Security, and just
over half dip into their retire-
ment savings earlier than they
had intended.
