Obituary
RHODA “LAURA” BUCKNER
Rhoda “Laura” Buckner, 74,
Vernonia, died May 10, 2012. A
celebration of life service will be
held June 3, from 1 to 4 p.m., at
the Scout Cabin in Vernonia.
Mrs. Buckner was born Sep-
tember 23, 1937, in Vernonia, to
Marvin Brewer and Annie (Cock-
rell) Robbins. She graduated
from Vernonia High School in
1955.
In 1955, she married Richard
“Max” Buckner. They made their
home in Vernonia. She worked
for Tektronix, Inc. for several
years and later owned and oper-
ated Vernonia Video Express.
She had been a member of
the Women’s Bowling League
and the Sweet Adelines barber
shop singing group. She en-
joyed baking, cooking, fishing
and caring for animals. She was
well known for her wedding
cakes.
She was preceded in death
by her husband; two brothers,
James “Jim” Brewer, and Ezra
“Zeke” Brewer.
Survivors include two sons,
Terry Buckner, and Ed Buckner,
both of Vernonia; three brothers,
M.C. Brewer of Clatskanie, John
Brewer of Vernonia, and Robert
Robbins of Washington; four
grandchildren; five great-grand-
children; nieces and nephews.
Remembrances are suggest-

Sweet Adeline’s of Hillsboro.
JULIANNE LISA HERINCKX
Julianne Lisa Herinckx, 26,
West Union, died April 29, 2012.
A funeral mass was held May 7
at St. Edward Catholic Church
in North Plains, followed by bur-
ial at St. Edward Catholic
Cemetery.
In 1988, she married Dennis
L. Martin. They made their home
in Elma, Washington, Brewster,
Wash., and Banks, before mov-
ing to Hillsboro in 2010.
She enjoyed blogging, home-
schooling her children, singing
at weddings and funerals, and
camping.
Survivors include her hus-
band; six sons, River T. Martin,
Levi D. Martin, Abram L. Martin,
Roman W. Martin, and Boaz
Martin, all of Hillsboro, and Isa-
iah S. Martin of Portland; her
parents of Pleasant Hill; a sister,
Teresa Martin of Parkland, Okla-
homa; a grandmother, a great-
grandmother, one grandson,
nieces and nephews.

Park and then for Homestreet.
She enjoyed cooking and
traveling.
Survivors include her hus-
band; three daughters, Camryn
Marinello of Palm Springs,
Calif., Marcella Ungar of Banks,
and Marleta Stansberry of Elma,
New York; her mother of Yu-
caipa, Calif.; a brother, James
Johnson of Las Vegas, Nevada;
a sister, Marcia Murray of Cher-
ry Valley, Calif; four grandchil-
dren, nieces and nephews.

Susanna “Susie” Starr Mc
Millen, 50, Vernonia, died April
18, 2012.
Ms. McMillen was born
March 4, 1962, in Kansas City,
Kansas, to Starr and Beverly
McMillen. She was raised in
Florida and Missouri, before the
family moved to Vernonia in
1976. She graduated from Ver-
nonia High School.
She enjoyed puzzle books
and going to garage sales.
Survivors include her mother
and father of Vernonia; her
daughter, Lisa Marie McMillen of
Vernonia; three brothers, Jimmy
McMillen of North Carolina, Furl
McMillen of Hillsboro, and Starr
McMillen of Vancouver, Wash-
ington; two sisters, Debbie
Huntington of Idaho, and Teresa
McMillen of Indiana; nieces,
nephews, and other family
members.
Minnie Rasmussen
In 1931 she married William
“Chauncey” Bowden. They
made their home in Missoula,
Montana. He died in 1939. In
1941, she married Alfred Lean-
der Carlson. They made their
home at Top Hill, before moving
to Cornelius in 1959. He died in
1983. She married Alma Ras-
mussen in 1984. They made
their home in Cornelius. She
worked as a Practical Nurse
from 1965 to 1971, when she re-
tired.
She enjoyed gardening and
genealogy, and had written and
published a book on the Long
and Robinson Families.
She was preceded in death
by her husband; four sons,
Chauncey Bowden, Jr., Elmer
Nolan Carlson, Leslie George
Bowden, and William Duane
Bowden; seven brothers, Oscar,
Harvey, Isaac C., Joseph, John,
Hobert, and Lawrence; and two
sisters, Esther Clift, and Barbara
Bagley Knudsen.
Survivors include five chil-
dren, Willina Bowden of Logan,
Utah, Chauncey Bowden of
Echo, Leander Carlson of Her-
miston, Rita Fay Anderson of
Lafayette, and Ida Peterson of
Mukilteo, Washington; five
brothers, Carol Long of McMin-
nville, Leona Long of Carlton,
Edward Long of Aloha, Hyrum
Long of Forest Grove, and Huey
Long of Hillsboro; 29 grandchil-
dren, 73 great-grandchildren, 56
great-great-grandchildren,
nieces and nephews.
MINNIE RASMUSSEN
Minnie “Alice” Rasmussen,
98, Cornelius, died May 1, 2012.
A service was held May 5 at the
Forest Grove Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints, fol-
lowed by burial at Forest View
Cemetery in Forest Grove.
Mrs. Rasmussen was born

Joann Pauline Williams, 85,
Vernonia, died May 5, 2012. A
service was held May 12.
Mrs. Williams was born Au-
gust 20, 1926, in Chicago, Illi-
nois, to Charles and Nancy
(Parpart) Zimmer. She was

MARY A. “ANITA” MATHEWS
SUSANNA S. MCMILLEN
Julianne Lisa Herinckx
Ms. Herinckx was born Janu-
ary 10, 1986, in Hillsboro, to
Dale R. and Donna Rae H.
(Schmidt) Herinckx. She was
raised in North Plains and grad-
uated from Glencoe High
School in 2004. She worked in
customer service at GM Call
Center, worked at McDonald’s
and, most recently, worked at
Solar World.
She enjoyed singing, creat-
ing gifts for family, cooking, and
she had not found a stray cat
she wouldn’t take home.
She was preceded in death
by her grandparents; three un-
cles; and an aunt.
Survivors include her parents
of North Plains; one brother, De-
rald Herinckx of Overland Park,
Kansas; two sisters, Deanna
Wile of Sauvie Island, and Jen-
nifer Herinckx of Banks; aunts,
uncles, nieces, nephews, and
many cousins.

TRINA LEAH MARTIN
Trina Leah Martin, 41, Hills-
boro, died May 1, 2012. A serv-
ice was held May 5, followed by
burial at Union Point Cemetery.
Mrs. Martin was born April 11,
1971, in Lebanon, to Larry L.
and Gail L. (Hansen) Bruner.
She was raised in Beaverton,
graduating from Christian Liber-
ty Academy.
Mary Anne “Anita” Mathews,
73, Hillsboro, died May 1, 2012.
A service was held May 11, fol-
lowed by burial at Valley Memo-
rial Park in Hillsboro.
Mrs. Mathews was born July
17, 1938, in Colon, Panama, to
Hilma (Lopez) Johnson. Her fa-
ther was Willard Froehlich. She
came to New York when she
was eight years old, then moved
to San Antonio, Texas. She at-
tended high school in New York,
then the family moved to Rialto,
California, where she attended
San Bernardino City College.
In 1964, she married Ross R.
Mathews. They made their
home in Tacoma, Washington.
In 1976, she and her husband
bought Donelson, Sewell &
Hammack Mortuary in Oregon,
and later bought Chapel in the
Valley Funeral Home, Fuiten
Mortuary, and Valley Memorial
Park. They owned and operated
August 8, 1913, in Poseyville,
Indiana, to George C. and Ida
Bell (Robinson) Long. She was
raised and educated in Lewis-
ton, Utah.
