He and his wife of 31 years, Leona, have four children and three grand- daughters. He has worked at the Alston Country Store, Crown Zellerbach, as the Co- lumbia County Jail Manager and as a Corrections Deputy He is now a self-employed pri- vate investigator. He has volun- teered with Clatskanie Rural Fire Protection District as a fire- fighter, and as a reserve deputy. He was a director on the Fire District, and at the Clatskanie Library District and has previously served on the Columbia 911 Communication District board of directors. Tony Hyde has been a coun- ty commissioner since 1996. Before that, he was mayor of Vernonia from 1993 to 1996, and a city councilor from 1989 to 1993. But, first he was a log- ger. He has served on many boards, committees and associ- ations in Columbia County and Oregon. He and his wife of 31 years, Dana, live in Vernonia and have two grown daughters. Tammy Maygra was born on Weed Ave. in Vernonia in 1958. Her father worked for the O-A Mill, as did her grandfather. She attended first grade at Washington Grade School be- fore her family moved to Deer Island where she still lives. She has pulled veneer on a green chain at Boise, worked at Pendleton Woolen Mills and in the shipyards. She is not re- tired. She has been a commu- nity activist for 20 years. Most recently she has been the chair of the Columbia Health District, serves on a CPAC, and is an advocate for better healthcare. Reginald Ward retired from the U.S. Navy in 1993 as a chief, and went to work at Hys- ter. Later, he got an associate degree in diesel engineering. He now owns and operates his business, Ward’s Mobile Shop. He and his wife, Cathy, moved to Vernonia in 1987. Cathy taught school in Vernonia. Both his sons graduated from Ver- nonia High School. One son, Justin, is a teacher at Vernonia Middle School, while the other, Joshua, works at the Portland Fire Bureau. Ward’s prior gov- ernment experience was in the Navy, where he handled budg- ets and ordering supplies.
