Banks Linear Trail Brave Run
The 2012 theme of the
Banks Linear Trail Brave Run
will be “Lace’em up and Run
like a Rock Star”. The 5K/10K
Run/Walk will be held Satur-
day, June 2, starting at 9:00
a.m.
The race starts at the Banks
high school track. The event

tured at an exhibit at the Karin
Clarke Gallery, 749 Willamette
St., Eugene. The show runs
from May 4 - 31. The Artist Re-
ception will be May 4, from
5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Regular
gallery hours are Tuesday
through Saturday from Noon to
5:30 p.m.
The exhibited works are
acrylic and mixed media on pa-
per, most are 7”x9” or smaller,
and feature houses, land-
scapes, and streetscapes.

Banks Public Library to close for
renovations on Monday, May 7
Renovation of the Banks
Public Library began April 16,
after months of planning. Con-
struction should take about six
weeks to complete. The first
weeks of construction will
cause some disruption to nor-
mal library traffic, but the library
will remain open and many
items will be available for
checkout. The library will close
for three weeks on Monday,
May 7, to allow for the most ef-
ficient renovation.
During the closure period,
patrons are encouraged to
have their holds sent to the
next most convenient library.
For many, this will be Forest
Grove. North Plains and Hills-
boro Main are also good op-
tions. All patron holds with a
pick-up library of Banks auto-
matically became inactive on
April 30. Those holds will reac-
tivate May 30 and items ready
to ship will be available for
checkout in early June when
the library reopens.
The renovation will result in
an expansion of the library into
the existing community room
and construction of a new lob-
by. This expansion will provide
room for the ever-expanding li-
brary collection, additional
seating for patrons to read or
access library Wi-Fi with their
laptops, and increased staff
work space.
Watch for an announcement
of the grand re-opening and
celebration in June.
The City of Banks is provid-
ing the funding for the renova-
tion portion of this two-phase
project. The second phase,
construction of new space to
allow for future growth of the li-
brary and to reinstate a com-
munity room for public meeting
use, will be financed through
various funding sources, in-
cluding grants and donations.
The Friends of the Library and
a group of interested citizens
will spearhead the fundraising
campaign. To prepare for this
effort, the Library Expansion
Team is undergoing training
provided through a grant from
the Ford Family Foundations.

N. Plains Garden Club Sale, May 5
The North Plains Communi-
ty Garden Club Plant Sale is
moving. This annual event,
held in conjunction with the
North Plains Citywide Garage
Sale, will be from 8:00 a.m. to
5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 5.
The new location will be at
Jessie Mays Community Hall,
north of Highway 26, just west
of NW Glencoe Rd. at 30975
NW Hillcrest St.
Included in the sale will be
annual, perennial, herb, and
vegetable plants, along with
planted pots, hanging baskets,
house plants, garden art, and
more. Proceeds from this an-
nual sale allow the garden club
to support the North Plains
community by supplying flow-
ers to the downtown area and
funding other local charity proj-
ects for schools, college stu-
dents, and area shelters.
