Bicycling Vernonia child hit by vehicle in March 18 accident
A child riding a bicycle was
struck by a vehicle, March 18,
on Bridge St. near Spencer Av-
enue.
The Vernonia Police Depart-
ment responded to the acci-
dent. Their investigation con-
cluded that two children on bi-
cycles entered Bridge Street
from Spencer Avenue without
stopping at the stop sign or
watching for traffic. As the chil-
dren entered the roadway,
there was
The driver of a vehicle trav-
eling West on Bridge St., ap-
proaching Spencer Ave., was
able to avoid the first bicyclist,
but struck the second cyclist,
an 11-year-old boy, who was
knocked off his bicycle, onto
the ground. He was transport-
ed to Emanuel Hospital, in
Portland, where he was treated
for a concussion and kept
overnight for observation.
No citations were issued
and it was determined that the

B St. after a 6-gal gas can ($30
value), a battery charger ($65
value), an arc welder ($160 val-
ue) and a welding rod ($50 val-
ue) were stolen.
