Vernonia Veterinary has new employee
Lindsay Weller, Vernonia, is
the newest staff member at the
Vernonia Veterinary Clinic.
Weller started at the clinic in
mid-January and brings four
years of experience working
with animals at a large pet
store. She loves, “expanding
on what I learned at the pet
store and learning about the
medical side of what’s going on
with the animals.” Weller greets
both animals and humans with
a great happy smile.
Weller, who moved to Ver-
nonia when she married Mark
Weller nine months ago, met
her husband at church services
in Beaverton.

open Mondays, Wednesdays
and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m.

New forest rule increases types of use

New guidelines for manag-
ing national forests – including
the 13 in Oregon, which com-
prise more than 15 million
acres – soon will go into effect.
Announced on January 26, the
update gives bigger roles to
conservation and recreation,
while keeping timber harvests
in the mix.
Now more than ever, the of-
ficials say, public lands are
“multiple-use,” which means
balancing multiple priorities.
Protecting watersheds and get-
ting the forests in better overall
health are at the top of the new
list, according to Agriculture
Secretary Tom Vilsack, “We
think we can reduce the threat
of catastrophic fires, we can
address the bark-beetle infes-
tation and other pests that are
causing some concern; and we
believe we can absolutely im-
prove the health of watersheds.
At the same time we’re doing
all of this, we’re confident that
we can produce jobs by supply-
ing timber products to local
mills.”
