VALDA RUTH HEENAN
Valda Ruth Heenan, 89,
Medford, died January 10,
2012. At her request, there
were no services. She will be
interred, along with her hus-
band, at Eagle Point National
Cemetery in Medford.
Mrs. Heenan was born Au-
gust 8, 1922, in Lake Preston,
South Dakota. She attended
college in S. Dak. In the 1940s
she came to Oregon where she
taught school in Washington
County, then to Vernonia. She
taught physical education and
health at the grade school lev-
el.
In 1946, she married John
R. Heenan. They made their
home in Vernonia until he was
accepted into the Oregon State
Police and they moved to Co-
quille, where she continued
teaching. In 1980, when John

retired as a Lieutenant Colonel,
they moved to Medford. Then,
they brought their RV to Ver-
nonia each summer to visit.
John died October 11, 2010.
Mrs. Graves was known as
a good and gifted teacher, and
a kind and compassionate
friend. She enjoyed quilting,
baking, and was still getting
four books a week from the li-
brary at the time of her death.
Survivors include her son
John Heenan of Salem.

GENE ELDON MOSS
Gene Eldon Moss, 67, Hills-
boro, died January 21, 2012.
Mr. Moss was born February
26, 1944, in Newport, to Glenn
E. and Lily (Koski) Moss. He
was raised in Newport though
the family moved to Salem
when he was a senior, so he
graduated from South Salem
High School in 1962.
In 1965, he married Patricia
Ann Sieler. They followed his
career in insurance, first as an
adjuster, then as a safety in-
spector throughout the north-
west and Alaska. In 1980, they
settled in Hillsboro. He retired
in 2006.
He enjoyed golfing, garden-
ing, the outdoors, and hunting
and fishing with his sons.
He was preceded in death
by his parents.
Survivors include his wife;
two sons, Gene E. Moss, Jr. of
Hillsboro, and Glenn E. Moss
of Banks; a brother, Glenn of
Toledo; and four grandchildren.

Cancer Research Center in
Seattle, Washington.

RUTH EVELYN MORRISON
Ruth Evelyn Morrison, 92,
formerly of Manning, died Jan-
uary 21, 2012. No services will
be held.
Mrs. Morrison was born
March 3, 1919, in Granada,
Minnesota, to Chester and
Beatrice (Lewis) Clay. She was
raised in Granada, graduating
from Winnebago High School
in 1936.
In 1938, she married Paul E.
Morrison. They made their
home in Mankato, Minn., be-
fore moving to Manning in
1982. In Manning, they realized
their dream to build a log cabin.
She enjoyed trips to the
beach, reading, raising Scot-
tish terriers, collecting Scottie
figurines, walking in the woods,
and quilting.
She was preceded in death
by her husband; a brother,
Lewis Clay; and four sisters,
Bernice Williams, Ethel Fowler,
Helen Greeley, and Marion
Saxon.
Survivors include a son,
Timothy Morrison of Leander,
Texas; a daughter, Amy Shores
of Forest Grove; five grandchil-
dren; and 12 great-grandchil-
dren.
Remembrances are sug-
gested to a charity of choice.

PATRICK OYLEAR
Patrick Oylear, 59, Banks,
died January 14, 2012. A cele-
bration of life was held January
29 at the Banks Fire Station.
Mr. Oylear was born Janu-
ary 29, 1952, in North Bend, to
Chester and Phyllis Oylear. He
served in the U.S. Navy.
In 1979, he married Gerri
Warren. They made their home
in Banks. He worked at Stim-
son Lumber Mill.
He enjoyed the outdoors,
hunting deer, elk and ducks,
and fishing.
Survivors include his wife;
three children, Danielle, Shawn
and Michael; and five grand-
children.
GABRIEL DAEMON ROARK
Gabriel Daemon Roark, 20,
Vernonia, died January 13,
2012. No services will be held.
Mr. Roark was born August
14, 1991, in Libby, Montana, to
Gabriel Daemon Roark
James and Rebecca Roark.
The family moved to Portland
one year later.
He worked as a cook in the
family restaurant, Santeria, in
Portland. For the past year or
so, he traveled the United
States before settling in Ver-
nonia.
He enjoyed drawing, cook-
ing, poetry, dragons, games
and being social with his
friends and family.
Survivors include his par-
ents and three sisters, Amanda
Eckhoff, Laurelei Roark, and
Scout Burgett.
Remembrances are sug-
gested to Panera Cares Cafe in
Portland, or Outside In in Port-
land.

Home in Vernonia was in
charge of arrangements.
Pelch. They made their home
in Southern California before
moving to Keizer in 1976, then
to Hillsboro in 1979. In 1984,
they moved to Yamhill, then to
Elsie in 1996. He was a truck
driver before retiring in 2004.
He enjoyed the outdoors,
farming, raising cattle, playing
sports with his children, work-
ing on his old truck with his
friend, Mark Porter, going to
auctions. His biggest vices
were ice cream, Dr. Pepper
and a Snickers bar.
He was preceded in death
by his parents.
Survivors include his wife;
seven sons, David of Cor-
nelius, Matthew of Banks,
Joshua, Phillip, James, and Lu-
cas, all of Hillsboro, and An-
drew of Hawaii; five daughters,
Teri Spaulding of Los Angeles,
California; Dianne Riccardi of
Elsie, Janet Segers of Hills-
boro, Karen of Banks, and
Shannon Spaulding of Elsie;
three siblings, Roy, Eugene,
and Luanne Mcanally; and 18
grandchildren.

MELVIN R. VANDEHEY
DERL GLEN ROBERTS
Derl Glen Roberts, 80, Ver-
nonia, died January 22, 2012.
A celebration of life was held
January 29 at the Vernonia
Scout Cabin.
JOSEPH H. SPAULDING
Joseph Howard Spaulding,
69, Elsie, died January 22,
2012. Graveside services were
held today at Willamette Na-
tional Cemetery in Portland.
Mr. Spaulding was born
September 17, 1942, in Hous-
ton, Texas, to Eugene and
Mary M. (McCary) Spaulding.
He was raised in Denton, Tex.
He served in the U.S. Marine
Corps.
In 1970, he married Susan
Melvin Richard Vandehey,
73, Forest Grove, died January
18, 2012. Memorial services
will be held Saturday, February
11, at noon, at Emanuel Luther-
an Church in Cornelius.
Mr. Vandehey was born
June 1, 1938, in Roy, to Law-
rence “Jack” and Julia “Judy”
(Devlaeminck) Vandehey. He
graduated from Banks High
School in 1957, then joined the
Oregon National Guard.
In 1959, he married Eileen
Hollman. They made their
home in Roy. They divorced in
1987. In 1991, he married Vir-
ginia “Gini” Leflar. They made
their home in Roy, until moving
to Forest Grove in 2005. He
worked in the upholstery busi-
