Child safety seat event tomorrow
Columbia County Safe Kids
will be holding a child safety
seat check-up event tomorrow,
December 8, in St. Helens from
4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the St. He-
lens Fire Station, 105 S. 12th
Street, St. Helens. The clinic is
free.
The clinic provides an op-
portunity to have a child safety
seat checked by a certified
technician, who can help with
installation. Technicians can
also check for seat recalls.
There is no cost to have a tech-
nician check your child safety
seats. Please plan to spend 30-
60 minutes at the event.
Through a grant funded by
ACTS Oregon, Columbia
County Safe Kids can provide
low-cost child safety seats to
families in need. Families who
receive TANF should contact
their worker about payment for
a seat. For more information
about the clinic or the Columbia
County child safety seat pro-
gram, please contact Natalie at
503-410-3169.

Senior Center News
At this time, the days that the Vernonia Senior

Year’s Day holidays are not known. Watch for
that information in this column in the December
21 Independent.
If you’re involved in holiday preparations, take
a look in our thrift shop for lots of choices at
great prices. You may even find something for
that difficult-to-buy-for person on your gift list.
The Senior Center Thrift Shop is open Monday
through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Wheelchairs are available through the thrift
shop, call Pauline Coffman for information. The
thrift shop can also accept almost any durable
medical equipment that you may want to donate.
Lunch is served Monday through Friday at
noon. A $4.00 donation is suggested for those
60 and older, and $5.00 for those under 60. If
you prefer lunch to go, for only $5.00 you can
call ahead and place your order.
Along with lunch, you can enjoy musical en-
tertainment by the Golden Oldies on Wednes-
days. Their repertoire includes a treasury of sea-
sonal and nostalgic melodies everyone will en-
joy.
Meals on Wheels are available for those who
are home-bound. Call Senior Information Assis-
tance Representative Rosie McCoy. She will ex-
plain how to put this great service to work.
Our cold mornings call for a hot breakfast,
and Connie’s great breakfasts are available Fri-
