Vernonia has a new police officer
Mayor Josette Mitchell gives Matthew Brady, the newest Vernonia police officer, the oath of
office at the Vernonia City Council meeting on November 21.
The Vernonia City Council
met on November 21 and De-
cember 5 for their regularly
scheduled meetings.
The first item of business on
November 21 was swearing in
the newest police officer,
Matthew Brady. After taking his
oath of office, Brady’s wife,
Kris, pinned on his new badge.
Brady, who had been a North
Plains Reserve Officer, will be
going to the police academy in
January to earn his certifica-
tion.
Mayor Josette Mitchell re-
ported that there will be no
council meeting on December
19; the next meeting will be
held January 3, 2012. She also
told council that City Hall will be
closing at Noon on December
23 and will be closed Monday,
December 26. City Hall will
close for the New Year’s holi-
day at Noon on December 30
and will reopen on Tuesday,
January 3.
In other business, the coun-
cil:
• heard from Mitchell that
Sally Harrison has resigned
from the Airport Committee, the
Economic Development Com-
mittee and the Vernonia Com-
munity Learning Center Com-
mittee. Councilor Bruce McNair
stated that he would “like to
thank Sally for all the work
she’s done for the city.”
• unanimously denied a re-
quest for an extension to a pre-
vious six month approval for a
recreational vehicle in the yard
of the Vernonia Community
Church.
• authorized City Administra-
tor Bill Haack to investigate al-
ternative SDC (System Devel-
opment Charges) structures
that might promote new home
construction.
The next Vernonia City
Council meeting will be on Jan-
uary 3, starting at 7:00 p.m. at
city hall.
