Vernonia’s long-neglected 2
hour parking ordinance will
start being enforced, the city
council decided this month.
A public hearing held last
month elicited a consensus of
those in attendance that the
only parking problem was lack
of enforcement of the ordi-
nance.
The city is also going to re-
paint curbs in the downtown
area so drivers can see where
parking is legal and illegal. Mo-
torists are reminded that it’s il-
legal to park within 20’ of an in-
tersection.

they go? Have I gotten any smarter? Not
really. Have I really accomplished some
great deed I’ve been working at? No, all
projects are still in the work stage. Have I
gained any dry weight? No, and my clinic

being cited, Vernonia Police
Chief Phil Jacobus said, be-
cause of two recent accidents
when children were hit while
crossing Bridge Street without
going to crosswalks. Injuries
were minor in both instances.
In other parking related deci-
sions, the council rescinded the
No Parking regulation instituted
last month on Park Drive, and
changed it to limited parking.
Parking will now be prohibit-
ed there only during the regular
hours the swimming pool is in
operation. Park Drive is adja-
cent to the swimming pool.
can’t see why?
I awoke this morning at 4:00 a.m. I guess I got a chill; anyhow
I couldn’t go back to sleep so I rose, got a shot of cranberry juice
and started knitting on the Ripple Afghan. Hook in hand – #1, 2,
3, 4, 5, 6, 7, skip 2, then 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, 3 sts in 1, then repeat
across, turn and repeat again and on I go – I now have only about
39,820 sts left. Yes, I take time out for nonsensical jabber once in
a while – ho, ho.
Reading in the paper of the city council predicament. I know of
one person I’d ask to come back in a heartbeat, but she has prob-
ably already said, “No, thank you.”
I guess I’ll stop my rambling and save pen and paper for an-
other day. Read page 570 of a Good Book, or maybe it’s page
808.
Pirate Festival, St. Helens
Climb aboard as the 6th an-
nual Portland Pirate Festival
sets sail for two exciting days
of piratical fun and family ad-
venture while we invade the
historic waterfront of St. He-
lens. The Festival begins on
Saturday, September 3, ends
on Sunday, September 4, and
features all of the fun and ex-
citement it has become famous
for, with the awesome addition
of more access for boaters!
The new location in St He-
lens, (Portland’s nearest es-
cape and film location for the
first Twilight movie) offers a va-
riety of great changes to this
staple NW festival, including a
beautiful spot on the Columbia
River, an Olde Towne setting
and ample moorage for boats
at the city docks and on Sand
Island.
Other fun new events in
2011 will include the addition of
Mermaid Lagoon; wild costume
parades lead by The Last Reg-
iment Drummers and The Ore-
gon Defense Force Pipe Band;
the comedy of Cap’n Chris the
Hypnotist; Curtis Carlyle Seri-
ously Funny Juggling, and the
whip cracking Lefty Caress.
