BOBBY JO HARMON
Barbara Joyce “Bobby Jo”
Harmon, 67, Vernonia, died
March 5, 2011. A celebration of
life dessert potluck will be held
on April 16, from 1:00 to 3:00
p.m. the Scout Cabin in Vernon-
ia.

GARY VERNON HEDLUND
Gary Vernon Hedlund, 64,
Forest Grove, died March 18,
2011. A celebration of life service
was held March 24, followed by
interment in Union Point Ceme-
tery.
Mr. Hedlund was born Decem-
ber 6, 1946, in Nevada City, Cal-
ifornia, to Jack and Thelma
(Kleppe) Hedlund. When he was
young, the family moved to Min-
nesota. When he was 15 years
old, he moved to California
where he completed his educa-
tion. He served in the U.S. Army.
In 1970, he married Linda M.
Dobbins. They made their home
in Sacramento, Calif., before
moving to Aloha in 1971. In 1978,
they moved to Banks, where they
lived until moving to Forest
Grove in 1998. He worked as a
truck driver until retiring when he
was sixty-two years old.
He enjoyed fishing and camp-
ing.
Survivors include his wife; two
sons, Gary M. of Astoria, and
Bryan of Garibaldi; his mother,
Thelma Kullberg of Forest
Grove; his brother, Neal of St.
Helens; his sister, Toni Beattie of
North Plains; two grandchildren;
one niece and one nephew.
Remembrances are suggest-
ed to the Oregon Fish and
Wildlife Department.

ALYCIA CLAIRE KARABINUS
Alycia Claire Karabinus, 63,
Forest Grove, died March 10,
2011. A funeral service was held
March 19.
Mrs. Karabinus was born De-
cember 12, 1947, in Vacaville,
California, to Clarence Joseph
and Rose (Malcolm) Santos. She
was raised in Woodland, Calif.,
graduating from Woodland High
School in 1966. She attended
Sacramento City College for two
years.
In 1972, she married Louis
Karabinus IV. They made their
home in Seattle, Washington,
and Vernonia before moving to
Forest Grove in 1973. She
worked as bookkeeper and sec-
retary in the family business,
Karabinus Forest Management
Services.
She enjoyed decorating her
home and caring for her dog.
She volunteered with youth
sports, West Tualatin Habitat for
Humanity and the Boys and Girls
Club in Hillsboro.
Survivors include her hus-
band; two daughters, Andrea
Claire Karabinus-Culbertson of
Sherwood, and Sarah Jean
Karabinus-Marble of Forest
Grove; a brother, Charles “Char-
lie” J. Santos of Tracy, Calif.; a
sister, Lorna Cross of Tracy,
Calif.; two grandchildren; nieces
and nephews.

DONALD P. JEPSON
Donald P. Jepson, 76, McMin-
nville, died March 24, 2011. A
celebration of life service was
held March 31, with David Bow-
den officiating. Vault interment
was at Fishhawk Cemetery in
Birkenfeld.
Mr. Jepson was born June 26,
1934, in Clatskanie, to Lawrence
and Mary Katherine Jepson. He
was raised in Birkenfeld and Ver-
nonia.
In 1958, he married Lois. They
made their home in several com-
munities before moving to
McMinnville. He was self-em-
ployed in the timber industry, co-
owning and operating L. Jepson
& Sons Logging with his father
and two brothers.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing,
cars and his work.
He was preceded in death by
his brother, Delmar; and a grand-
daughter.
Survivors include his wife; a
son, Donald Ross Jepson of Kel-
so, Washington; two daughters,
Jody Jepson Baker of Warren,
and Jill Davidson of Clatskanie; a
brother, Dennis Jepson of
McMinnville; a sister, Betty Ann
Thompson of Ontario; eight
grandchildren; seven great-
grandchildren;
nieces
and
nephews.

CORRECTION
One of Mr. Roediger’s survivors
was incorrectly identified in the
March 17 issue.
FREDRICK A. ROEDIGER
Fredrick Alexander Roediger,
92, St. Helens, died March 2,
2011. A funeral was held March
9. Interment was in Vernonia
Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Roediger was born April 9,
1918, in Thomas, to Edmund G.
and Marie (Steinhauer) Roedi-
ger. His family moved to Tre-
harne, where they ran a filling
station.
In 1942, he married Rosalie,
Driscoll. They made their home
in Vernonia. He served in the
U.S. Marine Corps during World
War II. He worked for Vernonia
Golf Course, the railroad, then
worked for O-A Lumber Compa-
ny for 20 years. In 1958, the fam-
ily moved to St. Helens, where
he spent 20 years in the Colum-
bia County Sheriff’s Department,
as a Chief Deputy, then as a
Captain. He retired in 1978.
He enjoyed gunsmithing, re-
loading, coin collection, garden-
ing and clamming, along with
camping, fishing and hunting at
Magone Lake.
He was preceded in death by
two brothers, John and Bud; and
a sister, Ruth Ozias.
Survivors include his wife; two
sons, Fred Fowler and Paul; two
daughters, Kathy Miller, and
Sherry Doty; one brother, Ed-
mond G.; eight grandchildren; 13
great-grandchildren; nieces and
nephews.
Remembrances are suggest-
ed to the St. Helens Sr. Center
for the SNAP Program.

ANNA B. SCOTTO
Anna B. Scotto, 91, St. He-
lens, died March 24, 2011. A fu-
neral mass was held April 1, fol-
lowed by vault interment at Co-
lumbia Memorial Gardens in
Scappoose.
Mrs. Scotto was born Decem-
ber 23, 1919, in Brooklyn, New
York, to John and Christine (Wol-
ber) Opulente. She was raised in
Brooklyn, graduating from high
school in 1938.
In 1946, she married Do-
minick Scotto. They made their
home in Brooklyn before moving
to St. Helens in 1957. She was a
homemaker.
She was preceded in death by
five siblings.
Survivors include her hus-
band; two sons, Jeff Scotto of
Portland, and Salvatore Scotto of
Vernonia; two daughters, Chris
Gainer of Warren, and Lisa
Domenighini of St. Helens; one
sister, Christine Opulente of
Brooklyn, NY; seven grandchil-
dren; and two great-grandchil-
dren.
Remembrances are suggest-
ed to Community Home Health
and Hospice in Longview, Wash-
ington.

VIOLA ANNETTA SLETTE
Viola Annetta Slette, 97,
Woodburn, died February 24,
2011. A celebration of life service
will take place at a later date.
Mrs. Slette was born January
4, 1914, in Emporia, Kansas, to
Forest and Ethel Boothe. She
was raised in Fremont, Nebras-
ka.
In 1944, she married Hans
Oliver Slette. They retired to
Woodburn. She was a terminal
manager for Dealers Transit for
five years, then co-owned and
operated Sunnyside Service in
Vernonia from September 1959
to September 1972.
She enjoyed dancing, exercis-
ing, crossword puzzles, helping
others, and baking.
She was preceded in death by
a daughter, Kathy Capelli; and a
granddaughter.
Survivors include her hus-
band; two children, Richard
Chilcoat and Joanne Vaughn; a
stepson, Mike Slette; 9 grand-
children; 11 great-grandchildren;
and three great-great-grandchil-
dren.
