Washington County Sheriff
David Brewer, 50, from Ver-
nonia, was arrested March 25,
after being stopped by a Wash-
ington County Sheriff’s Deputy
on Highway 47, for speeding
and suspicion of DUII.
The Deputy was using his
emergency lights and siren in
an attempt to stop a 1987 Ford
pickup traveling toward Ver-
nonia from Highway 26, but the
driver continued for about four
miles on Highway 47 before
stopping at the entrance to

As the driver opened the
door and exited the pickup, it
began to roll backwards to-
wards the deputy’s patrol car.
The driver was unable to apply
the brakes to stop the pickup
before it collided into the front
of the patrol car causing dam-
age.
There were no injuries in the
incident. The patrol car re-
ceived about $2000 in dam-
ages.
When Sheriff’s Deputies
completed a DUII investigation
with Brewer, he was arrested.
He was taken to the Washing-
ton County Jail and charged
with DUII, Reckless Driving, At-
tempt to Elude, and Criminal
Mischief.

reporting that a relative of

vestigation; taken to CCSO jail.
A 62-year-old Vernonia-
area man was taken into cus-
tody at the Columbia County
Jail on March 26, charged with
29 counts of sexual crimes in-
volving children. Columbia
County Sheriff’s Deputies took
the man into custody without
incident today while serving a
search warrant and arrest war-
rant at his residence.
