Alumni: The second annual
Alumni Basketball Game will
take place Saturday, March 12,
at 6:00 p.m.

This is a fundraiser for
OSEA Classified Employees of
the Vernonia School District.
Monies go to support confer-
ences, training workshops,
scholarship funds, Boys and
Girls Athletic funds, and
Teacher Appreciation Day.
Admission is $5.00 for
adults, $4.00 for those 12 years
old through high school, and
$3.00 for kindergarten through
fifth grade.
Girl Scout cookie app available
Girl Scouts of Oregon and
Southwest Washington an-
nounced recently that the Girl
Scout Cookie Program is going
mobile. Cookie lovers will now
be able to use their smart
phones to find the nearest Girl
Scout cookie booths through
GPS or manually entered zip
codes, cities or states. The app
will conveniently map booth lo-
cations and add sale informa-
tion to your calendar. In addi-
tion, customers can learn about
their favorite cookies and share
their cookie personality on
Facebook, Twitter and via e-
mail. The free app can be
downloaded
by
calling

from your mobile phone or by
searching “Cookie Locator” in
the iTunes store or Android
Marketplace.
Local booth information is
also available through the

sales are being held February
18 – March 13. There are eight
delicious varieties to choose
from: Thin Mints, Samoas®,
Tagalongs®,Do-si-dos® Dulce

Chalet Cremes.

gram is a hands-on leadership
and entrepreneurial program
for girls and we are delighted
that they can now utilize the lat-
est technology to achieve their
goals,” said Karen Hill, CEO of
Girl Scouts of Oregon and
Southwest Washington. The
Girl Scout Cookie Program
teaches girls five essential life
skills: goal setting, money man-
agement, decision making,
business ethics and people
skills. Many successful busi-
ness women today got their
start selling Girl Scout cookies!
All of the proceeds from our
cookie program benefit girls lo-
cally.
Agriculture calendar seeks photos
Oregon’s Bounty is an
award-winning calendar pro-
duced by Oregon Farm Bureau
that features gorgeous photos
of agriculture, its orchards,
ranches, fields, and people.
Images for the 2012 calen-
dar are being sought. Farm Bu-
reau invites the public to submit
their own photos of Oregon
agriculture: the commodities,
the families, the production, the
landscape, the retail, anything
that depicts the beauty, tech-
nology, culture, or tradition of
farming and ranching. Both
close-ups and panoramic
views are needed.
Photographers with images
selected for month pages in
Oregon’s Bounty will receive a
photo credit, an item of Farm
Bureau gear, and Farm Bureau
membership if they have not al-
ready joined the organization.
The deadline for entries is
August 15, 2011.

Senior Center News
Free blood pressure checks are available at
the center on the 4th Wednesday of each month
from 11 a.m. to noon. Don’t skip this simple, but
important, health check.
Lunch is served Monday through Friday at
noon. A $4.00 donation is suggested for those 60
and older, and $5.00 for those under 60. Lunch
to go is $5.00; call ahead and place your order.
Some great menus are just waiting for your en-
joyment
Free ice cream is included with lunch on the
last Wednesday of each month, courtesy of
Wauna Federal Credit Union, and the February
Birthday Lunch will be on Friday, February 25th.
If you want to take a short ride, the 5-Area
Lunch is at Rainier this month, on Monday, the
28th. And if you enjoy bingo, you can have fun
while you eat lunch. Diners play free Bingo each
Monday starting at 11:45 a.m.
Breakfast is available on Fridays (except Nov.
26) from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. Open to all ages,
breakfast is just $3.50 per person. Maple bars
are made fresh daily for $1.00 each. If you want
maple bars for a gathering, call 503-429-3912 a
day or two ahead and place your order.
Surplus bread and pastries are delivered to
the center on Tuesdays. Check it out, some of
your favorites may be here.
Several members of the senior center band,
The Golden Oldies, live in other communities
and have not been traveling on snowy or icy
roads. They will be entertaining again when the
weather allows safe travel – which we hope is
soon. Their regular schedule of every Wednes-
day from mid-morning until around 2:00 p.m. will
resume as soon as possible.
The center Thrift Shop has switched its half-
price sale from the last week to the first week of
each month. The shop is open to the public from
9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Needle workers get together on Tuesdays
(any time from 10:30 a.m. to closing) to enjoy the
company of others while working on their own
projects or helping someone else. Whether your
preference is quilting, crocheting, knitting, or oth-
ers sorts of needlework, bring your project and
join in.
Pinochle is well-attended on Fridays from 1:00
p.m. until the games are finished, and there’s al-
ways room for more players.
Foot Care is scheduled on the second and
fourth Fridays of each month, at $15 per person.

for 2011. Anyone 50 years and older, in the Ver-
