Pre- sented by the Oregon Lottery, the newly expanded event is called the SOLV Beach and Riverside Cleanup and is set from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on September 25. “With more than 150 cleanup and watershed proj- ects scheduled throughout the state, this is a fantastic oppor- tunity for all Oregonians to get involved in their community, and teach the next generation to care for the health of our lo- It’s getting close to the gutter cleaning time of the year. Here are 10 tips for safe gutter cleaning: • Always let someone know you are working on a roof. • Use a ladder with a shelf and a plywood platform for sta- bilization. • Clean off roof first. • Wear rubber-soled shoes or Korkers (shoes with grip spikes) for stability when walk- ing on roof. • Use a small plastic spade or gutter scoop. • Use gloves and proper eyewear. • Unclog downspouts with a cal watershed and the beaches we all enjoy,” explains SOLV Executive Director Melisa Mc- Donald. “We need thousands of vol- unteers to join in this effort to reduce the large amount of trash that flows to the ocean from inland waterways, streets, and storm drains,” said Pro- gram Coordinator Rachael Pecore. “By helping to elimi- nate trash and improve water quality upstream, before it reaches the beach, SOLV vol- unteers will be taking local ac- tion to address a very global problem,” Pecore added.
