Hancock Forest Management is happy to be a part of the community and is pleased to support the Vernonia Friendship Jamboree. 273 SR 4 West Cathlamet, WA 98612 Library Book Sale The Friends of the Vernonia Public Library will hold a two day book sale on Friday, Au- gust 6, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sun- day, August 8, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. (bag sale) at the li- brary on Weed Ave. The book selection will in- clude both used paperbacks and hard covers, all at below bargain prices. Raffle tickets will be sold to win new books. Logging displays There will be logging dis- plays, raffles, chainsaw chair auctions, and other logging re- lated activities in Hawkins Park on Sunday, August 8. Parade Parade registration will be from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. on Sat- urday, August 7. Judging starts at 9:30 a.m. with winners re- ceiving their awards before the parade hits Bridge Street start- ing at 11:00 a.m. The staging area is on Weed Avenue, be- hind City Hall. The parade ends at Bridge Street and East Av- enue. This year’s Grand Marshall will be Vernonia’s Biggest Class Reunion Committee. The Citizen of the Year is Nancy Burch, Vernonia Librarian. All riders of ATV/Motorcycles who are under 18 years of age must be supervised in the pa- rade by an adult. Lawnmower Races Lawnmower races will be held across the river from An- derson Park (Sword’s Place) on Saturday, August 7, starting with Stock at 2:00 p.m. and Modified and Super Modified at 3:00 p.m. $10 entry fee. Helmet, gloves, pants, shirt and shoes required. No mower decks or blades allowed. No bumping or ramming allowed. Must complete 20 laps. Tro- phies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers. First Friday events Vernonia First Friday events will be held at the Vernonia Community Learning Center, 919 Bridge St., from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There will be local produce offered at an Open Air Market, movies on Madison Avenue, music, a Pet Party and Animal Parade (for friendly, non-biting animals), juggling demonstra- tion, and more. Information Booth Information, including event maps, will be available on Sat- urday, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Vernon- ia Pride Information Booth, at Shay Park (at Bridge and Adams Streets). Jamboree t-shirts, and en- graved bricks for use in Shay Park will be on sale, “A Pocket in the Woods” history book may be purchased, Walking Tour booklets are $3.00 and window decals are available for $2.00 each.
