2010 Vernonia Friendship Jamboree Page 3 See how many of these Jamboree events you can enjoy this year Rendezvous Every year, the Nehalem River Rendezvous includes a large Trader’s Row, children’s games, shooting and throwing events that are fun for both par- ticipants and spectators. There will be archery, rifle, and pistol trail and novelty shoots. The annual rendezvous sponsored by the Vernonia Muzzleloaders is held on Stoney Point Road, two miles north of Vernonia. The rendezvous is open to the public and events are scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, and from 9:00 a.m. to noon on Sunday. Admission is free. Take Hwy. 47 North from Vernonia, ap- proximately 1-1/2 miles, turn left at Stoney Point Road and follow the signs to the parking area. Softball Games Competition in the annual Vernonia Jamboree Invitational Softball Tournament will take place every day during Jam- boree, at both Vernonia High School and Spencer Field. The eight men’s teams will start play Friday at 6:30 p.m., Saturday at 8:00 a.m. and Sun- day at 8:00 a.m. The eight women’s teams will start play on Saturday and Sunday at 9:00 a.m. Cruisin’ 2010 Car Show Jamboree Cruisin’ 2010 will take place on Saturday, August 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 4;00 p.m., filling the Vernonia school grounds. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. Award presentations begin at 3:00 p.m. This 19th annual car show is sponsored by Nehalem Valley Speed & Beauty Car Club. Cat- egories include Convertible, Pre-‘30, each decade from 1930 to 2000-newer, 2 wheel drive pick-up, 4X4, and Rat Rod. The fee to enter a vehicle is $15.00 and includes a packet with a dash plaque and raffle tickets. Tee shirts will be avail- able for sale and there will be ‘50s and ‘60s music all day. Proceeds help support local charities. Cruisin’ 2010 is free to spec- tators. Music There will be Jamboree Con- certs, in Hawkins Park, on Fri- day, Saturday and Sunday. Friday, August 6, the gates open at 5:00 p.m. with music at 6:00 p.m. by Victoria Davis and Concrete Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. $5.00 per adult (12 and over). Saturday, August 7, the gates open at 4:00 p.m. with music by Alfred Easter and Strand at 5:00 p.m. and Quar- ter Horse from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. followed by fireworks. $5.00 per adult. Sunday, August 8, gates open at 10:00 a.m. Music at noon with Mikal Brucken. Headliner Jesse Cain at 1:00 p.m. (benefit show for Schultz family). $5.00 per adult. Have a Great Time at Jamboree! G OOD F OOD • G OOD F RIENDS • G OOD T IMES 831 Bridge St. Vernonia, OR Open Daily 503-429-0214 Teen Dance Horse Gaming Show There will be a Teen Dance to benefit the Zach Rumbolz Memorial Scholarship fund on Saturday, August 7, from 8:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. in the Ver- nonia High School gymnasium. This dance is for ages 13 to 20, admission is $6 and all pro- ceeds go to the scholarship fund. The Vernonia Ridge Riders will hold a Playday, a horse gaming show and great family event, on Sunday, August 8, with competition starting at 9:30 a.m. in the Anderson Park Arena. Show events include Texas Barrel, Pole Bending, Flag Race, and Obstacle Course. Participants may compete in one of five age categories; nine years and under, 10-14 years, 15-20 years, 21-45 years, or 46 years and older. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Contestants must wear heeled shoes or boots and hel- mets are recommended. Stud horses will not be allowed to participate and no dogs are al- lowed in the arena. Food, food, food As always, there will be lots of food available. There will be vendors right off Bridge St. and then there are the Jamboree staples: • The famous Lions Club barbecued beef sandwiches served on Bridge Street across from Shay Park from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. • Pancake Feed at the Se- nior Center, 446 Bridge St., on Saturday and Sunday, from 7:00 to 11:00 a.m., $7 for adults, $4 for children under 6. Proceeds benefit Vernonia Se- nior Center and Vernonia Cares Food Bank. • The Vernonia Booster Club will be selling hamburgers at the Cruisin on Saturday, August 7. Kids’ Fishing Derby The Izaak Walton League Kids’ Fishing Derby is one of the first events to kick off the Jamboree weekend on Friday afternoon, August 6, at Vernon- ia Lake. Registration is from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with competition from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. There is no entry fee. Children compete in a num- ber of categories, including the most fish and the biggest fish. There will be prizes in each of the following age groups; chil- dren five years and under, six through nine years, and 10-14 years. Crappie, blue gill and perch are the only fish eligible for this competition. Participants are expected to supply their own bait and tackle. Children five years and un- der may be assisted by an adult in baiting their hooks and/or re- moving fish from the hooks, but the children must catch their own fish. There are popsicles for all of the kids afterwards. More on page 6
