Page 12 The INDEPENDENT, May 20, 2010 Banks School finalizes bond idea Banks qualifies again as Tree City, USA The Banks School Board has finally been able to begin fi- nalizing a bond proposal. Ac- cording to Superintendent Jim Foster, at a special work ses- sion on May 12 the board di- rected the facilities planning committee to develop a bond proposal with two constraints: The City of Banks qualified as a Tree City, USA, for the fourth time and received recog- nition from the State Forester at a ceremony on April 24. On hand to receive the recognition were Banks Tree Board Chair Tami Stewart and member Mit- ty Brady. Paul Ries, Urban & Commu- nity Forestry Program Manager for the Oregon Department of Forestry, presented the certifi- cation and Tree City, USA flag to the City of Banks at a cere- mony on the site of a tree plant- ing event at Sunset Park, a pri- vately owned recreation park in the City of Banks. Winners in the city’s Nation- al Drinking Water Week Color- ing Contest were also an- nounced at the meeting, with Mayor John Kinsky noting that the National Drinking Water Week Coloring Contest was a huge success.
