Accepting the check for Community Action Team (C.A.T.), grant administrator and program coordinator for the project, was Jim Tierney, C.A.T. Deputy Director, Senator Betsy Johnson was instrumental is securing the grant and continues to play a strong role in Vernonia’s recov- ery efforts, with her ongoing ef- forts to secure disaster assis- tance from the state and feder- al government on behalf of the City of Vernonia, the Vernonia School District 47J, residents, businesses and non-profits. “We wish to thank AT&T for their commitment and support,” Tierney said. “This tangible ev- idence of their recognition of the impact of the December 2007 flood truly helps keep our relocation efforts alive.” Tier- ney continued, “It would have been impossible for us to make the progress we have made during the last two years with- out the support and guidance of Senator Johnson.” The AT&T funds were con- tributed specifically to provide pre-development assistance with the City of Vernonia’s Rose Avenue Project, a mixed use project which will move these local non-profit organizations to safe ground provided to the City by the State of Oregon. Over the next six months, the Rose Avenue Project will complete its design plan, and begin fundraising for construc- tion. When complete, the proj- ect will move most of Vernon- ia’s critical social services (the health clinic, food band, senior center, electric co-op and other essential services) to safe ground above the flood plain.
