Town Hall tonight will update info
on schools and post-flood status
Thursday, December 3, the
Vernonia School District and
the City of Vernonia will spon-
sor a Town Hall Meeting from
7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Vernon-
ia Middle School cafeteria. The
meeting will acknowledge the
second anniversary of the 2007
flood and there will be a shar-
ing of both dessert and status
report information.
The latest information about
the new schools design and the
evolving funding strategy will
be shared. The school district
will discuss a potential partner-
ship with the city concerning
the sewer system upgrade and
the district’s need for wetland
mitigation, and finally there will
be some timely information on
emergency preparedness and
how the city is preparing for an-
other winter.

Light up your home and en-
ter to win the Banks 2009 Holi-
day Lighting Contest, spon-
sored by the City of Banks and
the Banks Chamber of Com-
merce.

11, at 1:00 p.m at Banks City
Hall, 120 S. Main St. Every
home in the 97106 zip code
area is eligible to enter.
Prizes will be awarded for
1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. Judg-
ing will take place the week of
December 14-18. Winners will
be notified by phone and can
claim their prize at the January
12 City Council meeting.
Banks High School
holiday program
Banks High School Band
and Choir will present a holiday
program on Thursday, Dec. 10,
at 7:00 p.m. in the high school
gymnasium.
The 68th annual Banks
Cemetery Dinner and Bazaar
will be held this Saturday, De-
cember 5, at Banks Elemen-
tary School.
The Bazaar starts at 10:00
a.m. and continues until 7:00
p.m., while the dinner starts at
noon and ends at 7:00 p.m.
The dinner cost is $10.00 for
each adult, $8.00 for seniors
and $6.00 for children 5 to 12
years of age. Children 4 and
under dine free.
All proceeds benefit the
Banks Union Point Cemetery
care and maintenance.
Come to Santa’s Breakfast,
Saturday, December 12, from
8:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Banks El-
ementary School cafeteria
(note: new location). Breakfast
is $4.00 and includes a cinna-
mon roll, sausage links, scram-
bled eggs, orange wedges,
and beverage.
Photos with Santa are avail-
able for purchase. The event is
sponsored by Banks Jr. High
Parents Organization to benefit
Jr. High extracurricular activi-
ties.
Vernonia Schools
holiday programs
The Vernonia schools Holi-
day Programs will start off with
the Middle School/High School
program on December 17,
starting at 7:00 p.m.
The Mist School program
will be on December 18, at
6:00 p.m.
This year’s annual Booster
Christmas Bazaar will be held
at the Vernonia Middle School
cafeteria on Saturday, Decem-
ber 5, from noon to 5:00 p.m.
and on Sunday, December 6,
from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
You’ll find holiday crafts,
foods, gifts and raffle items at
the Bazaar.
On Saturday, after the
bazaar, enjoy the Lighted
Christmas Parade, the lighting
of the City Christmas Tree at
City Hall, and a visit with Santa.
Then, have your tickets in hand
for the 204th Army Band con-
cert starting at 7:00 p.m. at the
Vernonia High School gymna-
sium. Tickets are free at area
stores, pick one up and enjoy a
full day of festivities to kick off
the Christmas season in Ver-
nonia.

Parade on Saturday
Pictures with Santa will
aid Vernonia Head Start
Vernonia’s lighted Christ-
mas parade will start staging at
5:30 p.m. on December 5 on
Washington Ave. (Country
Kitchen). It will turn right onto
Bridge Street and proceed to
City Hall. Santa will then be
available to children at City
Hall.
Get your picture with Santa
at the 3rd annual Pictures with
Santa fund raiser at Vernonia
Head Start.
Santa will be available for
pictures this Saturday, Decem-
ber 5, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00
p.m. A 4x6 photo is $5.00, or
four for $15.00.
Churches combine for “The Light Has Come”
People from eight area
churches have combined to
present “The Light Has Come,”
a Christmas musical with choir,
drama, and children’s choir.
Performances are scheduled
for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, De-
cember 12, and Saturday, De-
cember 19, with refreshments
to follow. The event is free and
open to the public.
Both performances will be
held at Sunset Park Communi-
ty Church, 174 Sunset Blvd. in
St. Helens.
The participating churches
include Sunset Park Communi-
ty Church, Yankton Community
Fellowship, Columbia Christian
Center, Calvary Lutheran
Church, Warren Baptist Church,
New Life Fellowship, Scap-
poose Foursquare Church, and
Grace Baptist Church.
