Holidays get help from community
The holidays in Banks are
brought to you by the whole
community. It begins with a
wonderful Thanksgiving Day
meal that was started four
years ago by a couple new to
the Banks area. Prior to moving
to Banks, Trisch Wentz and
Dave Burke had the opportuni-
ty to participate in a Thanksgiv-
ing dinner that offered a free
meal to anyone who came. It
was a blessing to them and so,
when they moved to Banks,
they wanted to participate in
the same type of ministry but
were unable to find any in west-
ern Washington County.

Banks Council told of October arrests
Mayor John Kinsky recog-
nized Isabel Giron and Hannah
McCourt for performing weekly
clean-ups in Greenville city
park, presenting them with
framed certificates of apprecia-
tion on behalf of the city and its
citizens. The mayor and council
applauded the girls for the ex-
ample they set in keeping our
environment clean. City Man-
ager Jim Hough said that a citi-
zen brought the young ladies’
service to the attention of the
city.
Deputy Pat Chertude report-
ed 46 calls for service in Octo-
ber, with four arrests. He also
made 36 traffic stops and wrote
12 citations. he commented
that he would like to come back
to his thoughts on traffic at the
conclusion of his crimes report.
He reported two separate inci-
dents of police officer holds on
suicidal subjects, a warrant ar-
rest, a verbal-only domestic
disturbance, plus reports of two
thefts, one theft from a vehicle,
and one criminal mischief.
Chertude also reported that
an assault incident that hap-
pened previously at the Banks
High School was initially written
off as mutual combat and both
students were suspended. Lat-
er, two students came forward
with cell phone videos of the in-
cident, which determined that it
was not mutual combat; the ag-
gressor was arrested. The
deputy, who has been spend-
ing a lot of time at the high
school, highly commends Prin-
cipal Smith for the way he runs
the high school with limited re-
sources.
Deputy Chertude said he is
still working on getting to know
the community and educating
citizens on less serious crimes.
“Controlling traffic has an effect
on crime,” he said, adding that
studies show there is a direct
correlation between being visi-
ble and getting to know your
community, to lowering crime
rates.
Planning Commission Liai-
son Sam Van Dyke was unable
to attend the meeting, but
asked Hough to inform council
that the Planning Commission
