Helvetia Road School board seeks one member
is now closed
Banks school board met interim superintendent for the
Helvetia Road between Ja-
cobson Road and West Union
Road has been closed since
July 13 for bridge repairs and,
according to Washington
County’s Department of Land
Use and Transportation, will re-
main closed through July 24.
The road must be closed to
all traffic, including bicycles, to
ensure worker and roadway
user safety while two bridge
bulkheads are replaced. All
roadway users are advised to
use alternate routes. About
4,400 vehicles a day travel on
Helvetia Road at this location,
according to 2008 traffic
counts.
The schedule may change
due to weather, contractors’
schedules, or availability of
materials. For a current sched-

elected Will Moore to serve as
chairman with Kathy Edison as
vice-chairman for the 2009-
2010 school year.
The resignation of Duanne
Lundsten last month created
an opening for the appointment
of a fifth board member. Moore,
Edison and newly elected
board members Norie Dimeo-
Ediger and Richard Bowden in-
terviewed the single candidate,
Laurie Schlegel, who appeared
at the meeting. The board
agreed to extend the opportuni-
ty to apply for the open position
and hopes to interview addi-
tional candidates this week.
The board approved the
transfer of high school athletic
director/vice-principal
Jim
Smith to the position of high
school principal for the 2009-
2010 year, following last
month’s appointment of high
school principal Jim Foster as
WOU gives Spring 2009 honor roll
Western Oregon University
has announced their Spring
2009 honor roll. The following
students from Banks were in-
cluded.
President’s List, 4.0 GPA –
Edmond A Trussell.
3.5 - 3.99 GPA – Kelsii J.
Dana, Jared D. Herb, and-
Samuel G. Thornton.

coming year. The district is ex-
pected to conduct a full super-
intendent search sometime af-
ter all new members of the
board are seated. At the ele-
mentary school, personnel
moves included Sena Wilmoth,
the subject of many pleas from
teachers to retain her, who will
be working full-time with Title 1.
Reinstated to part-time ele-
mentary positions were Bobby
Woodruff, Becky Gosselin,
Wendy Holland and Kristi
Schutt. Secondary teacher
Bradley Dunn-meier was also
reinstated.
The next regular meeting of
the board will be August 10, be-
ginning at 5:30 with a work ses-
sion and followed by the busi-
ness meeting of the board at
7:00.
