Obituary
SHARON L. BURGHARD
Sharon L. Burghard, 62, Aloha, died
January 4, 2009. A celebration of life
was held January 22 in Hillsboro.
Mrs. Burghard was born November
15, 1946, in Lewiston, Idaho, to Vernon
and Lillian White. She was raised in
Idaho until her family moved to Mon-
tana when she was 15. She earned a
Bachelor’s degree in English at Mon-
tana State University and a Master’s
and Doctorate at Idaho State Universi-
ty.
In 1967, she married Ron Burghard.
They made their home throughout the
West, living in Oregon most of the last
31 years. She taught English at J.B.
Thomas Junior High in Hillsboro.
Survivors include her husband; a
son, John of Vernonia; a daughter,
Melody Emerick; her mother, Lillian
Laws; a brother, Vernon “Lenny” White;
and four granddaughters.

DALE W. CLARK
Dale W. Clark, 92, Cornelius, died
January 12, 2009. No service will be
held.
Mr. Clark was born May 5, 1916, in
Mill City. He moved to Vernonia in 1922
and graduated from Vernonia High
School.
In 1937, he married Mary Mae
Storey. He served in the U.S. Army dur-
ing World War II. He moved to the Hills-
boro area in 1944. He was a self-em-
ployed logger.
He was preceded in death by his
wife.
Survivors include a son, Gary; a
brother, Kyle; three grandchildren; and
four great-grandchildren.
Finley Sunset Hills was in charge of
arrangements.
CHRISTOPHER JOHN CUBIC
Christopher “Chris” John Cubic, 27,
Buxton, died January 8, 2009. Memori-
al services were held January 16 at St.
Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in
Roy.
Mr. Cubic was born September 11,
1981, in Forest Grove, to J. Eric and
Marilyn (Mahoney) Cubic. He was
raised on the family farm in Buxton. He
graduated from Banks High School in
2000 and attended PCC. He worked in
the family’s business for several years.
Recently, he worked as an Editorial
Service Rep. for Stream International.
He was preceded in death by his
mother.
Survivors include his father of Bux-
ton; a brother, Jason of Hillsboro; his
grandmothers, Helen Mahoney and
Jean Taylor, both of Portland; three un-
cles and two aunts.

JAMES M. DOZIER
James M. Dozier, 59, Hillsboro, died
January 13, 2009. At his request, no
service will be held and interment will
be private.
Mr. Dozier was born December 7,
1949, in Fresno, California, to Pierce
and Essie Mae (Pollard) Dozier. The
family moved to Banks, where he was
raised. He graduated from Banks High
School. He moved to Spokane, Wash-
ington where he went into the insur-
ance business. He moved back to
Banks about 20 years ago, then to Cor-
nelius for a short time, before moving to
Hillsboro about a year ago.
He was preceded in death by two
sisters, Evelyn Watts and Nell Telling-
hiusen.
Survivors include a son, Tim of
Spokane, Wash.; a daughter, Angie
Dozier of Spokane, Wash.; a brother,
Roger of Hillsboro; two sisters, Mary
Griffith of Clatskanie and Judy Witham
of Buxton; and eight grandchildren.

GERALD JOHN HERINCKX
Gerald “Jerry” John Herinckx, 66,
Hillsboro, died January 14, 2009. A fu-
neral mass was held January 20 at St.
Matthew Catholic Church in Hillsboro.
Interment was at St. Francis Catholic
Cemetery in Roy.
Mr. Herinckx was born February 1,
1942, in Yamhill, to Joe and Gladys
(Kindel) Herinckx. He was raised on the
family farm in Verboort. He graduated
from Banks High School in 1960. He
served in the U.S. Army.
In 1964, he married Rose Marie
Vanderzanden. They made their home
in Hillsboro. He worked for Willamette
Industries for nearly 40 years, retiring
as Corrugated Plant Superintendent in
2003.
He was preceded in death by a sis-
ter, Marilyn Bernards.
Survivors include his wife; two sons,
Vic of Portland and Ryan of Roseburg;
three daughters, Michele Danko and
Rachel Bosworth, both of Hillsboro,
and Lori Parcels of Forest Grove; six
brothers, Ron, Dick, and Frank, all of
Hillsboro, Dale of North Plains, Jim and
Mike, both of Forest Grove; two sisters,
Tina Vandehey and Debra “Jane”
Vaandering, both of Forest Grove; and
nine grandchildren.
Remembrances are suggested to
St. Vincent de Paul food bank, St.
Matthew’s Conference, or the American
Cancer Society.

ROBERT L. “BUD” PRICE
Robert L. “Bud” Price, 83, Forest
Grove, died January 7, 2009. A grave-
side service was held January 15 at
Forest View Cemetery.
Mr. Price was born August 29, 1925,
in Vernonia, to John Henson and Flo-
rence (Wiedewitch) Price. He was
raised in Vernonia. He served in the
U.S. Army during World War II. He was
also in the Merchant Marines.
In 1950, he married Cora Belle
Waggoner. They made their home in
Portland and Cornelius before moving
to Forest Grove in 1969. He was a
gravel truck driver for 40 years before
retiring.
He was preceded in death by his
wife.
Survivors include two sons, Michael
I.and Mark I., both of Forest Grove; two
daughters, Mary I. Henry and Melody I.
O’Neel, both of Forest Grove; six
grandchildren; and four great-grand-
children.

VIRGINIA ELAINE REED
Virginia Elaine Reed, 87, Stew-
artville, Minnesota, died January 27,
2009. A funeral was held January 31 at
the United Methodist Church in Racine,
Wisconsin. Burial was in Hamilton
Cemetery in Racine.
Ms. Reed was born February 24,
1921, in Racine, Wisc., to Daniel W.
and Florence M. (Brownell) Reed. She
graduated from Stewartville High
School in 1939. She trained as a
teacher at Winona State Teachers Col-
lege, then earned a Bachelor’s degree
and a Master’s degree. She taught
school in Nebraska, Kansas, California
and Oregon. She then worked as the
assistant high school librarian in
Kansas for two year. She taught in high
schools in Bradley, South Dakota, then
in Vernonia, before becoming head
high school librarian in Douglas, Ari-
zona for 13 years. After retiring in 1987,
she returned to the family farm in
Racine, before moving to Stewartville in
2005 with her sister.
Survivors include her sister, Mar-
garet Reed of Stewartville, Minn.; and
cousins.

JOSHUA M. TILLERY
He joined the U.S. Army after gradua-
tion. He was serving his second tour in
Iraq at the time of his death.
In 2001, he married Stephanie
Charlene. His wife is currently pregnant
with their fourth son.
Survivors include his wife; three
sons, Alec, Colin and Hayden; mother,
Paula R. Trueax; father, Stephen D.
Tillery; sister, Stephany Ann Tillery;
grandparents, aunts, uncles and
nephews.
Remembrances are suggested to
charitable organizations that assist mil-
itary families in times of need.

LORETTA MARIE VANDERZANDEN
Loretta Marie Vanderzanden, 92,
Banks, died January 21, 2009. A funer-
al mass was held January 24 at St.
Francis Catholic Church in Roy, fol-
lowed by interment at the St. Francis
Catholic Cemetery in Roy.
Mrs. Vanderzanden was born De-
cember 7, 1916, in Verboort, to Walter
and Margaret (Joosten) VanDyke. She
was raised on the family farm in Ver-
boort and graduated from Visitation
High School.
In 1946, she married Aloysius “We-
ice” Vanderzanden. They made their
home on the family farm in Banks,
where they raised strawberries, wheat,
hay and apples.
She was preceded in death by 10
siblings.
Survivors include her husband; four
sons, Peter and Chuck, both of Hills-
boro, Rob of Vancouver, Washington,
and Mark of Banks; four daughters,
Paula McVay of Hillsboro, Karen Kem-
per of Banks, Joan Schouweiler of Cor-
nelius, and Jane Vanderzanden of
Gales Creek; four siblings; 21 grand-
children; and nine great-grandchildren.
Remembrances are suggested to
St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Grade
School Endowment Fund.

LONI MARLENE VENDETTUOLI
Loni Marlene Vendettuoli, 56, Hills-
boro, died January 12, 2009. A celebra-
tion of life was held January 31 at
Banks Community United Methodist
Church. Another celebration is sched-
uled for Sunday, February 8, at the First
Christian Church in Kent, Washington,
at 2:00 p.m.
Mrs. Vendettuoli was born Septem-
ber 3, 1952, in Seattle, Wash., to Carl
Joshua M. TIllery, 31, formerly of
Banks, died January 26, 2009. A funer-
al service will be held Friday, February
6, at 11:00 a.m. at Lincoln Memorial Fu-
neral Home, 11801 SE Mt. Scott Blvd.,
Portland. Visitation will be held Febru-
ary 5 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A commit-
tal service, with full military honors, will
be at Willamette National Cemetery.
Mr. Tillery was born February 26,
1977, in San Diego, California. He
moved to Banks as a child and gradu-
ated from Banks High School in 1995.
Daniel and Jeanne Allison (Ludwig)
Cochrane. She was raised in Seattle
and on Mercer Island. She earned a
Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Ed-
ucation and Kinesiology and a Master’s
degree in Physical Therapy at the Uni-
versity of Washington.
In 1977, she married Timothy Blaine
Vendettuoli. They made their home in
Washington. She moved to Hillsboro in
2008. She worked as a Physical Thera-
pist.
Survivors include her husband of
Kent, Wash.; a son, Blaine A. of Cle
Elum, Wash.; a daughter, Heather J.
Vendettuoli of Tukwila, Wash.; her par-
ents of Banks; two brothers, Bradley
Cochrane of Banks and Todd Cochrane
of Manhattan, Kansas; two sisters, Jill
Kilby of Banks and Gwen Steinbach of
Forest Grove; nieces; nephews and
other family members.

ALVIN DELL WRIGHT
Alvin Dell Wright, 98, Mist, died Jan-
uary 22, 2009. Private interment rites
were held at the Mist Cemetery.
Mr. Wright was born January 2,
1911, in Salkum, Washington, to Dell H.
and Bertha W. (Gore) Wright. He was
raised in Sherman County.
In 1945, he married Betteen Anna
Mathews. They made their home in
Manzanita and Lafayette before mov-
ing to Mist in 2000. He worked as a log-
ger for fifty years, then retired.
He was preceded in death by his
wife; four brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include his son, David A.
of Mist; one grandchild; and three
great-grandchildren.
