repairs, 2nd car warranty (blah,
blah, for the millionth time)” or
“how to pay off my $$$ debts”
but just now I’m here to tell you
I just found a health care plan
for less than $100 a month
and…(I cut her off.) To stop this
telephone spam would be an
infringement of their right to
free speech. I would keep me
from having to pay for pills for
anger management and high
blood pressure, which would
give me the right to peace and
quiet and allow me to choose
what, when, where and why I
want. Spam o the internet? You
just have to click your mouse.
With the phone you stop cook-
ing or changing baby’s diaper
or get out of the shower. Oh
well…
It’s time to get our your tin
pants, canvas gloves, your
pruning shears. The blackber-
ries are turning – yum yum,
blackberry shakes, blackberry
pie and ice cream.
No to be serious for a minute
or two.
I know you 16 to 21 (I was
there once myself), you don’t
need any advice on how to live
your life. “Live Your Life” – It
won’t be over at 21 or any giv-
en time if you stop now and
make a few choices. So you
won’t be busy every weekend.
Friends don’t let friends drink
and drive isn’t the main prob-
lem.
It’s what you decide to do
with your life now and stick to it
that lets you “Live Your Life”;
1. Booze does not make a
party.
2. Drugs do not make a par-
ty.
3. Staying out all night does
not make a party.
4. “Oh, come one, get in, it’ll
only take five minutes” – can
kill the party and you.
Young folks; listen, look, feel
the pain of a lost life.
Friend or stranger we all fee
the pain of those left behind.

One hundred thirty-seven for-

Upper Nehalem Valley met at Cre-
ston city park in Portland for a get-
to-gether and pot luck dinner Sun-
day, August 10. After dinner and
refreshments the meeting was con-
vened for the purpose of forming a
permanent organization which will
be called the Vernonia Society.
E. S. (Happy) Thompson, was
unanimously elected president;
Mrs. L. H. Dewey, vice-president
and A. C. (Archie) Knauss, secre-
tary-treasurer for the ensuing year.
Lester Sheeley was appointed as
membership and publicity chair-
man and he was instructed to pre-
pare by-laws for approval at the
next meeting. It was decided to set
the annual dues at $1.00 per year
and extend an invitation to all for-
mer residents of Vernonia and the
Upper Nehalem Valley to become
members. Short talks were made
by Franklin Malmsten, H. E.
Thompson, and others present.
The next regular meeting will
be held in 1959, at a place and
time to be determined by the pres-
ident and proper notice forwarded
