Page 18 The INDEPENDENT, August 21, 2008 Did You Know… By Chief Mathew Workman Vernonia Police Department A s Summer comes to a close I am re- minded that fall is r i g h t around the corner as the VHS fall sports athletes are working hard to get into shape. The phony messages described two children from Bend who had been kidnapped and were pos- sibly in a Jeep Liberty. The message asked that the recipi- ent send it to others. The phony messages could put children in real danger, forwarding inaccu- rate information and tying up in- formation lines. Do not forward Amber Alert messages. Check their validity at www.oregonam beralert.com or listen to the ra- dio if you are in a vehicle. Legit- imate Amber Alert text mes- sages are never asked to be forwarded but are updated or cancelled regularly. The Oregon High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) recently released its annual drug threat assessment report. The report indicates that Ore- gon exceeds the national per capita average for the illicit use of marijuana, methampheta- Please see page 20 ALE WOODWORKIN D N I G.C NTA O U O M M Service Directory C ABINET D ESIGN & M ANUFACTURING S INCE 1976 J OEL T EMPLIN CCB #43965 503-429-5436 V ERNONIA , O R 97064 FALL CREEK WOODWORKING WOOD FLOORS INSTALLED & REFINISHED 503-429-4351 Cory Colburn 11561 Keasey Road, Vernonia, OR 97064 • CCB #79876 R OBERT J W ATTS C ONSTRUCTION , I NC General Contractor • Excavating • Septic Systems • Site Prep • Trenching • Ponds ph 503-429-5504 cell 503-475-5442 Flagger Certification Classes Available PO.
