Shoppers took advantage of the items available at the sec-
ond annual garage sale to benefit the Vernonia school band
program, held at the Middle School cafeteria on May 17.
First Friday events announced
Vernonia’s First Friday on
June 6th, the second in this
season’s series of First Friday
events, will initiate the closure
of one block of Madison Av-
enue to open a larger venue for
the Open Air Market, plus musi-
cians and an art show, from
4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Previously,
the market has been located in
the courtyard behind the Com-
munity Learning Center.
There will also be a scape-
goat-burning event held in the
Wauna parking lot at 6:30 p.m.
This is your chance to write
your sorrows and frustrations
down on your own scapegoat,
and for a small donation let it all
go up in flames.
At 7:30 p.m., local animal
communicator Eileen Williams
will give an introduction to her
specialty at the Grange, and
Open Mic Nite will follow at
8:00 p.m.
Look for other unique events
around town during this time,
including special merchant
hours and bargains. First Fri-
days are scheduled for July 4,
September 5, and October 3. If
you would like to participate,
please contact Erika Paleck at
503-429-0898.

a milk chocolate) so if that
sounds like just the number for
you, see you on Mondays!
Thanks to the Vernonia

Band
last
Wednesday for their delightful
performance here at the Cen-
ter; have a nice summer, kids,
come back again. Also, the
Golden Oldies are here each
Wednesday; for them we are
thankful and many of the sen-
iors from near and far make the
trip just for the listening, and
dancing on occasion…

Medicare l0l – free state class
explaining Medicare. More than
500,000 Oregonians have
Medicare – and many of them
need help navigating this
health insurance system to get
all their benefits. The state
class, offered by the Senior
Health Insurance Benefits As-
sistance (SHIBA) program,
covers all you need to know, in-
cluding different types of
Medicare insurance, and pre-
scription drug coverage. For
further information, call me,
Karen Miller, at 503-429-9112.
Some of us seniors had an
enjoyable time at the five area
lunch held in St. Helens last
Monday. Every last Monday of
the month, one of the five differ-
ent centers hosts lunch. If you
would like to be a part of this
fun event, let us know.
Membership: Always taking
membership dues; still only
$10. Thanks for your support.
Our sympathies to the family
and friends of Elsie Taylor who
passed away this past week.
Also, to the family and friends
of Shalmon Libel. Obits avail-
able in other news articles.
A man dropped in to pay a
friend a visit, and was amazed
to find him playing chess with a
dog. The man watched in si-
lence for a few minutes, then
burst out with, “That’s the most
incredible dog I ever saw in my
life!” “Oh, he isn’t so smart,”
was the answer, “I’ve beaten
him three games out of four.”
Ok. So we don’t have any dogs
to play games with around
here, but come on in and see if
you can match wits with Alan or
Russ, or anyone else.
Thanks for your donations
during business hours. We ap-
preciate it.
Have a safe summer!
