ployed full-time on an operating
dairy farm, (c) anyone present-
ly employed full-time as an
owner or employee of a milk
processing plant or milk distrib-
utor, (d) or any person em-
ployed in a dairy-related indus-
try, (e) a member of 4-H or FFA
who has a dairy project, includ-
ing raising a heifer to milk pro-
duction. Qualified candidates

Dairy Princess Ambassador
Heidi Larson. In January, she
was crowned the 2008 Oregon
Dairy Princess Ambassador.

Women conduct fundraising ac-
tivities through the sale of deli-
cious shakes, sundaes, ice
cream, floats, and of course
milk! Funds raised are in part
for scholarships toward higher
education for both young
women and men pursuing ca-
reers in or out of the dairy in-
dustry.

moved to Corvallis, where he graduat-
ed from high school in 1950. He served
in the U.S. Navy during the Korean
Conflict.
In 1955, he married Helen Vaughn.
They made their home in Artesia, Cali-
fornia, until moving to Vernonia in 1974.
He worked as a meat cutter in Calif.,
then owned and operated Virgil’s Fine
Meats until 1974. He was a reserve po-
lice officer in Los Angeles for two years.
He was the Meat Department Manager
at Vernonia Market from 1974 to 1978,
then was Plant Manager at WIllamette
Poultry Company until 1983. From
1983 until his retirement in 1994, he
worked at Lynden Farms.
He was preceded in death by a
daughter, Sheri Wilson.
Survivors include his wife; a son,
Michael of Milwaukie; two daughters,
Robin Leone of Seattle, Washington,
and Dana Hyde of Vernonia; five broth-
ers, Leo of Boynton Beach, Florida,
Jack of Downey, Calif., Jim of Indone-
sia, Del of Woodburn, and Gene of
Rock Hill, South Carolina; two sisters,
Eunice Abrahamsen of Camas, Wash.,
and Bonnie Knepper of Aurora; nine
grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Obituary
VIRGIL DUANE HIVELEY
Virgil Duane Hiveley, 75, Vernonia,
died February 17, 2008. Graveside
services were held February 22 at the
WIllamette National Cemetery in Port-
land. A celebration of life was held Feb-
ruary 23 at Vernonia Community
Church with the Rev. Mike Wilson offici-
ating, assisted by Pastor Grant Wil-
liams.
Mr. Hiveley was born June 1, 1932,
in Watford City, North Dakota, to
Everett E. and Helen (Wheeler) Hive-
KENNETH DANIEL LEGORE
Kenneth Daniel “Danny” Legore,
62, Beaverton, died February 27, 2008.
Graveside services will be held Friday,
March 7, at 1:00 p.m. at the Olney
Cemetery in Pendleton, followed by in-
terment.
Mr. Legore was born November 14,
1945, in Baxter Springs, Kansas, to
Kenneth M. and Mary Lou (Fulton)
Legore. His family moved to Banks
when he was young. He graduated
from Banks High School. He served in
the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era.
In 1970, he married Sandi Adkins.
They made their home in College
Place, Washington, and later in Walla
Walla, Wash., before divorcing in 2003.
He was a truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his fa-
ther and a son, Kenneth.
Survivors include two daughters,
Kimberley Rauda of Hillsboro, and
Shawna Briggs of Pendleton; his moth-
er of Pendleton; three brothers, Rick of
Molalla, Jack of Pendleton, and David
“Dave” of Colton; three sisters, Judy
Snyder of Pendleton; Sherri Weir of
Bandon, and Joyce Williams of Gold
Canyon, Arizona; three grandchildren;
nieces and nephews.
Remembrances are suggested to
the Kenneth D. Legore Trust Fund at
any Wells Fargo Bank branch.
