gauge at Foss? The answer is
another reason why this flood is
considered a flash flood. The
rainfall started at the coast first
and ended there first; the rain-
fall flooded all the streams and

Obituary
WALTER LANE CRUME
Walter Lane Crume, 84, Tillamook,
died January 21, 2008. Services have
been held. Interment was in Mountain
View Memorial Gardens in Forest
Grove.
Mr. Crume was born October 8,
1923, in Orofino, Idaho, to Drury and
Grace (Pratt) Crume. He was raised in
Idaho, Newberg, Glenwood and Tilla-
mook. He graduated from Forest Grove
High School.
In 1942, he married Peggy Hughes.
After her death, he married Gertie
Noteboom in 1994.
He was preceded in death by both
his wives.
Survivors include five sons, Dan
and Dennis, both of Forest Grove, Jack
and Brad, both of Tillamook, and Rick
of Banks; two daughters, Rindy Patter-
son of Rainier, and Peggie Bristow of
Banks; one stepson, Kenneth Note-
boom; two stepdaughters, Carol
Ellyson and Betty Schild; three sisters,
Goldie Thompson of Forest Grove,
Evelyn Elliott of San Diego, California,
and Alma Gilmore of Arizona; 24 grand-
children and 30 great-grandchildren.
Remembrances are suggested to
Tillamook Nazarene Church Building
Fund, or to Tillamook County Hospice.

GENE DAVID FOSDICK, SR.
Gene David Fosdick, Sr., 67, Ver-
nonia, died January 12, 2008. A cele-
bration of life was held January 21 with
Pastor David Walmer officiating. Inter-
ment was at Gethsemani Catholic
Cemetery in Portland.
Mr. Fosdick was born July 22, 1940,
the American Diabetes Association,
Oregon Affiliate, Inc., 1200 NW Naito
Parkway, #220, Portland OR 97209.

Gene D. Fosdick, Sr.
in Charles City, Iowa, to Harry and
Ruby (Goddard) Fosdick. He was
raised in Portland. He served in the
U.S. Army in the Vietnam era.
In 1972, he married Sandra C.
Scruggs. They made their home in
Clackamas and then Portland. In 2005,
he moved to Vernonia. He worked as a
machinist and was the owner/operator
of HMC in Gresham until he retired.
He was preceded in death by his
wife.
Survivors include two sons, Scott
and Gene D., both of Vernonia; two
daughters, Cindy G. Rowsell of Mil-
waukie, and Kimberly C. Rease of Van-
couver, Washington; one brother, Paul
of Reno, Nevada; three sisters, Bar-
bara Blackburn of Aloha, Maryann Mc-
Cran and Cathy Remsing, both of Port-
land; five grandchildren; nieces and
nephews.

IDA JORGENE KOSKI
Ida Jorgene Koski, 91, Cornelius,
died January 6, 2008. Services have
been held and interment was in Taft
Cemetery in Taft.
Mrs. Koski was born January 30,
1916, in Chitwood, to Harold H. and Ja-
cobina (Hanson) Hansen. She was
raised on a farm on the upper Siletz
River. She graduated from Siletz High
School.
In 1933, she married Venere Ed-
ward Koski. They made their home on
the family farm in Siletz until moving to
a farm south of Hillsboro in about 1940.
They moved to Forest Grove around
1947 and to Cornelius when her hus-
band retired.
She was preceded in death by her
husband; a brother, Daniel Hansen;
and a sister, Sylvia Greene.
Survivors include two sons, Charles
Koski of Buxton and Bill Koski of Aloha;
a daughter, Sandra Williams of Brin-
non, Washington; two brothers, Henry
Hansen and Arnold Hansen, both of
Roseburg; a sister, Signa Miller, of
Tacoma, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; 13
great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-
grandchildren; a niece; and many
cousins.

BERTHA E. SCHUMACHER
Bertha E. Schumacher, 95, Birken-
feld, died January 7, 2008. A life cele-
bration will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Schumacher was born March
15, 1912, in Goldendale, Washington,
to Sutherland and Bertha Neeley. She
was raised in Bremerton, Wash., and
earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from
the University of Puget Sound.
In 1936, she married Clifford Schu-
macher Jr. They moved to Santa Fe,
New Mexico in 1944, then returned to
the Yakima Valley in 1949. She was a
social worker, and co-owner of the fam-
ily-owned Bungalow Grocery. In 2002,
she moved to Birkenfeld.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, and a daughter, Catherine
Pendergraft.
Survivors include two sons, Bob
Schumacher and Richard Schumacher;
