The Hazardous Waste Collection event on Saturday, October
13, collected 9,400 pounds of waste from 79 households in
Vernonia. The event was put on by Columbia County Dept. of
Land Development Services. If you missed it, the next one
will be in St. Helens, 1601 Railroad Ave., on Saturday, Octo-
ber 27, from 8:00 a.m. to noon.
Variety show Sock hop at the
Vernonia Hands-on Art pres-
ents its third annual variety
show at 7:00 p.m., Thursday,
November 15, at Washington
Grade School. This year’s
show will benefit the Vernonia
School Band program and Ver-
nonia Cares Food Bank.

Everyone is encouraged to
attend this family-friendly
evening of entertainment by lo-
cal singers, dancers, musi-
cians, and other talented peo-
ple of all ages. Admission is $5
for adults, 2 cans of food for
kids.
Grange on Nov. 3
The Vernonia Community
Grange is hosting a “Farewell
to the Fifties” sock hop at the
Grange on Saturday, Novem-
ber 3, starting at 7:30 p.m.
Fifties attire is optional, but
socks or saddle shoes are the
only footwear allowed!
There will be a DJ playing
popular music of the Fifties
when rock’n’roll was born, re-
freshments, a raffle, and other
surprises. Admission is $3 for
adults and $1 for kids.
This event is a fundraiser for
improvements to the Grange
Hall and a way to celebrate the
Baby Boomers who are saying
goodbye to their fifties as they
hit that milestone 60th birthday.

In cleaning under a large
piece of un-movable furniture
the other day, I found dust bun-
nies having little dust bunnies, I
assume that means the furnace
is running a lot lately, warm air
is moving about.

Gospel group coming to Vernonia
The
Tennessee-based
“Blackwood Legacy” gospel
group, featuring former Black-
wood Brothers Quartet lead
singer and Gospel Music Hall
of Fame Inductee Rick Price,
will be in concert on Sunday,
October 21, 9:45 and 11:00
a.m., at the Vernonia Christian
Church. Admission is free and
a love offering will be received.

thought was impossible to be a
true word so I looked in the Big

now I’m trying to find a way to

own lately. First, it was the wa-
ter pump, then the starter sole-
noid, then a new battery – to
continue the saga – it demand-
ed a new starter, what’s next?
I’m already contemplating a set
of new tires before Christmas
so maybe I’m ahead of ‘his’
game (no female auto would be
so demanding of new toys).

it’s a beehive of buzz – folks
visiting up a storm. Halloween
pumpkins on the table and
Christmas music being inter-
laced with Waltz of the Wind to
Tennessee Stud and the Little
Brown Church in the Vale. They
play sweet and slow or hot and
fast. If you want to dance, that’s
allowed. The Swiss steak was
delicious and so was the warm
apple cobbler.
It’s flu shot time and it’s time
