Library Plant and Book Sale on May 4
The annual spring Plant and
Book Sale for the Banks Public
Library will be held Friday, May
4, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and
Saturday, May 5, from 9:00
a.m. to 3:00 p.m. An assort-
ment of nursery grown perenni-
als, herbs, ornamental trees,
shrubs and northwest natives
will be available this year. The
knowledgeable nursery owners
and their staff will also be at the
sale to answer your questions
about their plants and your gar-
den.
In addition to the nursery
vendors there will also be a
certified Master Gardener at
the sale to assist the many vol-
unteers who are also knowl-
edgeable about plants. This
sale is a great opportunity to
discuss your garden with a va-
riety of plant people, then go
home with the plants to instant-
ly begin working on your new
plan.
As always, the Friends of the
Banks Public Library, who
sponsor the annual event, will
have a “Home Grown” section.
Thanks to the efforts of volun-
teer Sheila Day, this year’s
choices will include an out-
standing collection of plants
from local gardeners. In past
years, heirloom roses, iris and
peonies have been brought in.
Every year is an adventure in
the Home Grown section so
don’t miss out. If you are inter-
ested in donating plants, con-
tact Sheila before May 4, at
503-324-6191.
There will also be, of course,
a wonderful selection of gently
used books for sale. Most are
priced between $0.50 and
$2.00, or you can buy a canvas
bag for $10.00 and fill it with
paperback books! There is usu-
ally a good selection of biogra-
phies, science-fiction, garden-
ing and children books. Arrive
early for the best selection. The
Banks Public Library is located
at 111 Market Street in Banks.
Tax deductible donations of
books in good condition may be
made to the library at any time
of the year; contact a librarian
for more information during
your next visit, at the sale, or by
calling 503-324-1382.
The Friends of the Banks
Public Library is a non-profit or-
ganization that supports the li-
brary by sponsoring activities
and programs. Profits from this
sale will benefit the Banks Pub-
lic Library and our community.
